About the job
The Architect for Product Platform will uplevel architecture across several Product Platform groups— Twilio’s Identity and Integrations Platforms. They will peer with other Architects to help uplevel architecture across Product Platform. They will help drive large strategic R&D initiatives or projects that impact the entire company. They will be one of Twilio’s best engineers and be a technical leader that is expected to be a role model and mentor for principal engineers, and staff software engineers across Twilio’s R&D organization.
Immediately, this role supports Kubernetes Migration, Twilio’s product organization model, RBAC, and SendGrid integration. Identity has 50+ Tier0/1 services that are in the critical path of customer traffic. We require an architect who can support various teams across identity, lead with a reliability-first mindset, bring in transformational identity initiatives with company-wide impact, and represent identity in technical communities and guilds.
Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll:
- Responsible for excellent technical decisions and outcomes in Platform Engineering at Twilio.
- Drive impactful company level R&D initiatives or projects that have C-Level visibility.
- Build, maintain, and provide inspiring leadership for software engineers including architects, principal engineers, tech leads, and staff software engineers. Mentor other engineers on the team throughout their journey with the goal of rising the tide of technical ability across R&D.
- Influence across an organization. Do you have a track record of influencing multiple stakeholder groups and demonstrating the ability to empathize with them?
- Working alongside teams, not in an ivory tower, to help unblock, derisk, and drive progress forward for key projects and initiatives.
- Contribute defining quarterly OKRs with R&D leadership including SVPs, VPs, and Senior Directors of Product Management and Engineering.
- Drive effective post-incident reviews identifying core contributing factors using
- Collaborating with stakeholders to drive adoption of Platform services across the company.
- Champion of non-functional requirements including: availability, scalability, observability, extensibility, and security
- Ensure world-class reliability, security and cost-efficiency for all the products we build.

Required:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in data engineering, software development, or a related field, with at least 5 years in a technical leadership role.
- Proven track record of architecting and delivering complex data projects at scale, with a deep understanding of distributed systems with an emphasis on AuthN / AuthZ
- Expertise with AWS
- Proficiency in Java or Go programming languages
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence technical decisions and drive alignment across teams.
- Strong leadership skills, with a track record of mentoring and developing high-performing engineering teams.
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and deliver results under tight timelines.
Desired:
- Familiarity with Kubernetes, Open Policy Agent
- Familiarity with Cedar, open-source access control language.
Location
This role will be remote, and based in the USA.
No mandatory travel is anticipated.

The estimated pay ranges for this role are as follows:
- The estimated pay range for this role,: $218,960.00 - $273,700.00
- This role may be eligible to participate in Twilio’s equity plan. All roles are eligible for the following benefits: health care insurance, 401(k) retirement account, paid sick time, paid personal time off, paid parental leave.
The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location within the state.
