We are hiring a sharp, dynamic and self-motivated Associate Counsel, Commercial to join our commercial legal team and support Lyft’s commercial transactions, focusing on advertising and marketing, enterprise sales and other commercial contracts.  You will primarily support the Lyft Media advertising platform, which provides engaging ad content across multiple digital and out of home environments, and our Lyft Business enterprise solutions enabling diverse organizations to provide business travel, commuting and ride programs to their employees, customers or students.   You will strategize with business leaders and manage the negotiation and drafting process, including coordinating input from partners such as product legal, privacy and compliance.

The successful candidate will be organized, an entrepreneurial and resourceful self-starter, comfortable working in a fast-paced, multifaceted, dynamic environment, excellent at building strong relationships, and passionate about closing the deal.

Responsibilities:
  • Act as the legal advisor for Lyft’s advertising and marketing and enterprise sales teams in partnership with product legal, privacy and compliance
  • Draft and negotiate a variety of legal agreements involving Lyft Media sales, complex partnerships, and advertising-related agreements such as ad measurement, upfront agreements, insertion orders
  • Review, draft and negotiate Lyft Business commercial agreements with partners such as major retailers, networking companies and financial services organizations and with customers such as Fortune 500 companies and elite universities
  • Advise our business teams on relevant legal issues and risks, complex agreement structures, approval processes, and company policies and procedures
  • Be a point of contact for legal issues for the commercial legal team, while collaborating closely with other legal and compliance teams to provide holistic advice, serving as a strategic thought partner for stakeholders
  • Improve our standard form agreements, playbooks, and legal processes to help us scale globally with a consistent but locally relevant approach
Experience:
  • Qualified attorney and Member of the California Bar (in good standing) or eligible to register as California Registered In-House Counsel
  • 2+ years of experience working in a law firm and/or in-house legal department
  • Experience working in the technology/software sector, including PaaS or SaaS contracts, is a plus
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities, judgment, communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
  • Strong track record of reviewing, negotiating and drafting a wide range of complex commercial agreements
  • Proven ability to provide quick-thinking, pragmatic, business-oriented advice while properly balancing risks and business objectives
  • Ability to think quickly on your feet, convey grace under pressure, and simultaneously manage workloads, multiple client demands, and shifting priorities
  • Ability to operate autonomously while being a team player who brings a positive attitude to the workplace
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, rapidly-evolving workplace
  • Good sense of humor, low ego, disdain for drama, interested in learning new things, and desire to get things done

This role will be in-office on a hybrid schedule — Team Members will be expected to work in the office 3 days per week on Mondays, Thursdays and a team-specific third day. Additionally, hybrid roles have the flexibility to work from anywhere for up to 4 weeks per year.

The expected base pay range for this position in the New York area is $162,000 - $180,000. Salary ranges are dependent on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience and geographic location. Range is not inclusive of potential equity offering, bonus or benefits.
