Associate Director Retail and Market Insights
Our Opportunity:
Chewy is seeking an Associate Director Business Strategy & Planning to join our Finance Team based in Plantation, FL. This is a critical leadership position on the Commercial Finance team where you will partner with business teams, senior leadership, marketing, investor relations, and finance to drive understanding of the broader pet industry, category trends, and insights that will drive action for Chewy using syndicated market research data. The role will establish best practices across business teams, educate team members on insight mining, develop cadence on reporting actionable insights, and evaluate current and new data sources. The role requires a detail-oriented candidate with previous experience with market research regarding data, systems, reporting, and adoption. The individual needs strong analytical and systems skills and must be able to effectively partner with business leadership on setting strategy and long-term goals for the areas we plan to tackle. The individual will need the ability to quickly understand the Company’s retail space, financial model, and strategic goals. The ideal candidate will also have experience with improving processes and tool implementation. Change-management skills will be very important. The leader will need to be able to influence across many different areas of Chewy to drive implementation of category insights as a standard practice. Ability to communicate and train various partners will be critical to successfully actioning the insights. The Associate Director of Retail and Market Insights will work closely with and report to the Vice President of Commercial Finance, helping to drive insights across the competitive set.
What You'll Do:
- Partner with multiple functional areas such as Corporate Finance, Commercial Finance, Investor Relations, Marketing, Category Merchants and Analytics to drive rich, deep, actionable insights from market data
- Lead overall competitive analysis based on syndicated market research sources
- Identify areas in need of process improvement in our approach to understanding the competitive environment
- Drive collaboration and change management with regard to syndicate market research data across the retail space
- Manage relationship with external data vendors, audit, and evaluate all tools
- Keep Chewy product hierarchies and attributes accurate and updated as needed
- Conduct ad-hoc analyses to drive decision-making for the category merchants
- Lead weekly and monthly marketplace overviews highlighting action steps
- Drive continuous improvements in data quality with data providers
- Drive effective teamwork, communication, collaboration, and commitment across multiple groups
What You'll Need:
- Bachelor's degree
- 10+ years related experience
- Previous experience with syndicated market data sources (e.g. NielsenIQ, Circana, JungleScout, etc.)
- Previous experience on the client side and syndicated data provider side
- Results-oriented mentality, highly energetic, dynamic individual with hands-on mentality
- Entrepreneurial mindset – ability to operate and drive results as a self-starter
- Strong Communication skills – ability to distill and convey complex information messages clearly and succinctly
- Demonstrated ability to deal with ambiguity and rapidly changing operating conditions while still delivering to expectations
- Advanced analytical skills and the ability to drill down to the details, while also seeing and understanding the big picture
- Demonstrated high degree of competency accessing and utilizing analytical tools, advanced computer literacy
- Passion for pet industry, understanding of how the industry works
- Industry experience in partnering with consumer/retail organizations a plus
- Technology experience a plus
