As we scale our Global Tax Team, we are now looking for a talented and exceptional Associate Principal to join our team in Latin America (“LATAM”). Based in São Paulo, this role will report to the Head of Tax for South America and proactively partner with our business leaders, Finance, Legal and Policy teams to anticipate and identify tax issues, recommend solutions, research and solve problems, support go-to- market strategies, and exercise good business judgment while performing these tasks and working closely with our US and international tax teams.

A Typical Day: 

  • Manage direct and indirect tax compliance, operations and accounting for Airbnb in Latin America.
  • Partner with local advisers and Finance teams to oversee outsourced tax compliance in the region, identify opportunities to mitigate tax liabilities and provide tax input on local statutory reporting
  • Manage direct and indirect tax audits and interactions with tax and governmental authorities throughout the region.
  • Manage local, country and regional-level tax negotiations and implementations.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders (business leadership, Legal, Policy and Finance) and external advisers in response to the rapidly changing tax and legal landscape relating to technology companies.
  • Interface with cross-functional teams as well as external tax advisers to implement tax strategies.
  • Interface with legal, operational and finance teams, as well as external tax advisors to lead the regional tax review of new product rollouts, transactions and partnerships.
  • Manage special projects in the region. Some international travel is expected (LATAM and other locations globally).

Your Expertise:

  • 10+ years of direct and indirect tax experience with the majority of time spent in a combination of Big 4 accounting firms and multinational companies/ law firms.
  • Strong foundation of tax technical knowledge with in-depth, practical experience evaluating and advising on international business initiatives.
  • Ability to operate independently and act as a strategic business advisor, while keeping all stakeholders informed of local issues, while seeking input and collaborating within the Tax team and cross functionally where appropriate.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, attention to details, while having the ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize work.
  • Proven ability to think strategically while also engaging in day-to-day tactical details.
  • Proven ability to identify and manage tax and execution risks.
  • Fluency in English is required. Advanced Spanish skills are a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills with the ability to interact with all levels of management while at the same time able to work independently to resolve tax issues.
