AUTOMATION & CONTROLS SPECIALIST

Working for the Equipment Automation & Controls team, the Automation & Controls Specialist will be responsible for building, installing, and commissioning new automation assets, panel builds, and electromechanical controls systems. Additionally, the Automation & Controls Specialist will be responsible for assisting equipment maintenance with troubleshooting complex controls issues within existing SpaceX critical assets, with the focus on adding long term repairs that increase the overall reliability of production systems, rather than implementing quick fix solutions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Execute redline and initiate changes to electrical, mechanical, and fluids schematics for automated production systems and equipment.
  • Wire, commission, and validate electromechanical and pneumatic control systems.
  • Support Automation Engineering on equipment mechanical assembly, electrical cabinet builds, electro-mechanical sub-system integration, and startup/commissioning.
  • Develop new and improve automation and electrical designs on existing production assets.
  • Establish effective project management skills to drive efficient project completion.
  • Promote 5S principles of organizing and sustaining efficient and presentable team work spaces.
  • Support Production Devices that may include, but not limited to PLCs, HMIs, IoT Devices, Industrial Automation Sensors, etc

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 1+ years in an industrial discipling operating or repairing machines, equipment, or facility systems
  • 1+ years with electrical or system controls troubleshooting

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Ability to demonstrable hands-on skill in fault finding, mechanical system troubleshooting, and solid problem resolution skills.
  • Highly motivated with strong interpersonal skills; a team player, yet able to work independently when necessary.
  • Ability to use power tools, hand tools, and electric meters/devices.
  • Ability to read, understand and utilize system-level schematics (mechanical/electrical/pneumatic/hydraulic).
  • Exceptional problem solving and communication skills, creative, and has strong organizational skills as well as documentation.
  • Understanding how to work with a variety of PLCs and HMIs
  • Experience with electrical control panel build and wiring standards.
  • Electrical schematic drawing/updates.
  • Excellent skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Detail oriented, organized, and able to demonstrate a high sense of urgency.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and pneumatic schematics and drawings.
  • Ability to interpret and think logically through PLC-based operations and low voltage component troubleshooting.
  • Analytical skills - Skilled at gathering and analyzing information to understand complex situations and solve problems.
  • Ability to maintain a safe and clean working environment while adhering to company policies, quality policies, and industry standards.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be available to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
  • Willing to travel. Up to 10%
  • Ability to pass Air Force background checks for Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:    Pay range:    Automation & Controls Specialist /Level 1: $30.00 - $38.00/hour    Automation & Controls Specialist /Level 2: $34.00 - $43.00/hour    Automation & Controls Specialist /Level 3: $38.00 - $48.00/hour    Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
