About us  

At Modulr our mission is to move money efficiently to power business productivity. We are building a new digital payments service to make money flow more efficiently through businesses and the economy. This is a new type of payments account that is built for businesses that need faster, easier and more reliable ways to move money. 

Our flexible platform and innovate approach allows our customers to utilise our payments account instead of a traditional bank account. Our accounts come with a sort code and account number, access to payment systems (eg Faster Payments and Visa) and everything our customers need from a payments account. They can instantly open as many accounts as they need, automate how they make and receive payments as well as the reconciliation processes these create. All in real time, 24/7 through their own systems utilising our API that integrates into any platform.

What will you do

As a Compliance Analyst at Modulr, you will work closely with the Head of Risk & Compliance in Amsterdam and the group stakeholders in the UK and Ireland to deliver a robust control framework in the Netherlands that can scale into the European branches. We’re a small team so this is a hands-on role; you’ll need to be comfortable getting into the detail and be happy to suggest improvements.  

Modulr has a strong team with extensive experience in payments, so you will have a chance to learn from some experts. The role requires a forward-thinking individual who can also recognise the value of finding innovative but robust ways of meeting compliance requirements to support the growth of the business.   

The Compliance Analyst will be part of the 2nd Line Risk and Compliance and take responsibility for a range of activities that support the Compliance function in continental Europe. Modulr group has a robust framework with strong capabilities in place. The duties related to Risk and Compliance range from understanding regulatory requirements, setting up and the submission of regulatory reports towards the Bank of Spain and Sepblac. Working together with a cross border team located in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. The Compliance Analyst will also be the Branch Manager for the Spanish branch as such, regulatory engagement with the Spanish regulators will also fall under the scope of this function.  

You will

  • Support regulatory engagement – specifically reporting 
  • Handle the day-to-day requirements of managing the Spanish branch for Modulr 
  • Understand the regulatory needs and translate this to data entry requirements
  • Assess and review suspicious activity reports from our financial crime team 
  • Find ways to innovate, enhance and smooth our compliance processes to maintain a competitive edge in a responsible way 
  • Perform risk assessments together with the wide compliance function to ensure risk exposure is within appetite  
  • Support reporting for the Management Board, Supervisory Board and group stakeholders

About you  

  • You take a structured and methodical approach to your work with strong attention to detail and you deliver to a high standard 
  • You’re excited about the prospect of taking ownership of compliance processes, whilst ensuring that they evolve so that the compliance programme continues to be aligned to the business’s growth plans
  • You know how to prioritize and communicate your priorities 
  • You have an excellent understanding of the regulatory landscape and reporting requirements
  • You have a strong drive to support process and control improvement across all business functions to support Modulr’s continued business growth 
  • You work collaboratively with your immediate and extended team, being flexible when business priorities change
  • You are confident communicating with and influencing stakeholders across the organisation, seeking to always achieve the right outcome for Modulr and its clients      
  • You’re comfortable working in an early-stage business, where time is critical, and things change frequently
  • You enjoy self-leading and working independently in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment
  • You enjoy sharing your knowledge and sharing your ideas about how we can improve  
  • You have a strong interest in FinTech, payments and integrity

 Skills and experience we’re interested in  

  • Degree in law, business administration or business-related subject  
  • Experience with designing and monitoring a robust risk & compliance framework 
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations (e.g. AML/CTF, EMD2, PSD2, European passporting regime, GDPR) 
  • Experience with setting up regulatory reports in Spain 
  • Command of European languages; Spanish and English mandatory (French and/or German good to have)
  • Experience working in a business environment where there is a high level of attention to detail and planning 
  • Experience communicating with demanding stakeholders 
  • Experience with supervisor engagement would be an asset
