About the team
We are a scaling in-house team of tax professionals, driving the group's global tax function right out of Sofia. We manage all aspects of taxation, including VAT, corporate income tax, international taxation, and transfer pricing, among others. We are a multidisciplinary business partner, that adds value and steers all tax-related aspects of SumUp’s global operations.
The role
This is a 6-month paid internship - ideally full-time 8 hrs per day/40 hours per week - at the office. There is flexibility.
What you’ll do
- Support the team in our end-to-end tax and compliance activities including but not only drafting tax and Intrastat returns, working on reports, performing analysis, reconciliations to tax accounts, and submitting tax returns to relevant authorities across the EU
- Using SAP, Excel, GSheet, Alteryx, and other internal tools, you will support our data building for compliance, analysis and other purposes
- Research and support on tax-related matters for various internal and external stakeholders
- Provide support within tax audits
- Support the team with review of financial data for proper application of tax laws
- Remain up to date with tax law and compliance changes to support the team with identifying potential business impacts

- You hold or are in the process of obtaining a Bachelor’s degree (BA) or Master in Accounting/Finance/Business Administration or other related field
- You are proficient in MS Office Excel and have strong analytical skills
- You are fluent in English
- You have experience with SAP or other ERP systems (an advantage, not a requirement)
- You have accounts payable/receivable, general and/or tax accounting experience in a current or relevant position (an advantage, not a requirement)
- Tax experience with exposure to corporate taxes, VAT or transfer pricing in a multinational environment (an advantage, not a requirement)
