CONSTRUCTION TECHNICIAN (LAUNCH DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS)

As a member of the Launch Development Projects team, you will help construct and activate new construction projects, renovation projects, and strategic planning of office and production spaces at our launch sites. You will work with internal engineering, design groups, maintenance groups, external vendors and contractors, and project stakeholders/customers to support these goals. You will have the opportunity to drive positive changes and own projects from start to finish, to make the SpaceX campus a world-class manufacturing facility.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform minor construction tasks as needed including: door installation, wall framing, drywall hanging & finishing, tile and carpet installation, concrete pouring/finishing, layout, demolition, etc.
  • Perform pre-operational safety checks and equipment inspections
  • Operate a forklift, scissor lift, pallet jack, boom lift, work truck, and overhead crane, as needed
  • Open, track, and resolve electronic work tickets on SpaceX systems
  • Adhere to health and safety guidelines
  • Use hand tools and manual equipment (tape measures, saws, squares, shovels, etc.)
  • Schedule and sequence work with vendors for small projects
  • Use computer software, including Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, etc.), Bluebeam, Autodesk Construction Cloud, etc.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 3+ years of residential, commercial, or civil construction experience

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Basic knowledge of construction trade(s), electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R), concrete, welding, finishes, etc.
  • Knowledge of basic math, engineering, and construction principles/methods
  • Ability to take on additional responsibilities as needed, as well as determine and manage priorities with minimal guidance
  • Ability to read, understand, and implement detailed schematics, design drawings & specifications, and work instructions

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral
  • Ability to work at elevated heights (200+ feet)
  • Physical effort with lifting and carrying materials or equipment (up to 50 lbs.)
  • Typically exposed to work in extreme outdoor environments – heat, cold, rain
  • Work performed in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, and noise
  • Must be available to work extended hours and weekends when needed, based on site operational needs; flexibility required
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Occasional travel may be required to support vehicle operations at production and launch sites

  • To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
