Corporate Accountant - Tax & Compliance

We are seeking a capable and detail-oriented Corporate Accountant – Tax & Compliance to join the central finance team at Seeing Machines. Reporting to the Financial Controller, this role plays a key role in delivering accurate financial reporting, maintaining core accounting processes, and supporting the organisation’s Finance Business Partners with timely financial information and analysis.
Alongside core accounting responsibilities, the role also supports the company’s tax and compliance obligations across Australia, the United States, and Europe. Working closely with external advisors, the Corporate Accountant will coordinate routine tax filings (including income tax, FBT, BAS, and VAT), contribute to tax disclosures, and help ensure compliance with evolving regulatory requirements. The role also provides input into tax planning initiatives and risk mitigation, aligning compliance activity with the organisation’s broader financial objectives.
About the opportunity:
Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Prepare and post journal entries, ensuring accuracy of the general ledger.
- Complete balance sheet reconciliations and support month-end close processes.
- Assist with group reporting and preparation of statutory financial statements.
- Maintain fixed asset records, including tax depreciation schedules.
- Prepare audit schedules and respond to external auditor queries.
Support to Finance Business Partners
- Provide timely and accurate financial data to support budgeting, forecasting, and business performance analysis.
- Liaise with business units to ensure financial data is well understood and consistently applied.
- Support the preparation of internal reporting packs and dashboards.
Tax Compliance & Regulatory Support
- Manage preparation and submission of indirect tax returns (BAS/IAS, VAT, sales tax) across relevant jurisdictions.
- Coordinate with external tax advisors to ensure accurate and timely completion of income tax returns, FBT filings, and R&D claims.
- Contribute to the preparation of tax disclosures for statutory accounts.
- Monitor compliance obligations across all relevant jurisdictions, identifying changes in tax legislation and assessing potential impacts.
- Support internal financial controls and ensure finance policies reflect current compliance and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in tax planning activities and identify opportunities for process improvements or tax efficiencies, in consultation with the Financial Controller.
About you:
- Degree in Commerce, Accounting, Taxation, or a related field.
- CA/CPA qualification preferred.
- Experience in financial accounting and reporting roles, ideally with some exposure to tax compliance.
- Understanding of corporate accounting principles and financial control processes.
- Familiarity with indirect tax compliance (e.g., BAS, VAT) and coordination of external tax advisors.
- Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite preferred) and advanced Excel skills (e.g., formulas, pivot tables).
- High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Proactive, with the ability to work independently and as part of a broader finance team.
- Effective communicator, able to collaborate with both internal stakeholders and external advisors.
