Teamworking for the planet

Everything we do here spins around Plan Zero. So, naturally, the team you’ll be joining plays a gigantic role in making that happen.

This role in a nutshell:

In this role, you’ll be leading the corporate communications function, using your media expertise and strategic thinking to create campaigns to enhance OVO’s reputation.

You’ll be directly supporting key OVO functions, including our Commercial, Policy, Regulatory, People, Risk, Brand, Marketing and wider Corporate Affairs teams by creating and delivering OVO’s communications strategy.

You’ll have a great eye for a media angle and have excellent experience of pitching and securing stories. Your role will lead on the corporate communications strategy and news pipeline, as part of the wider Corporate Affairs plan.

You’ll also be a safe pair of hands during a crisis and will take the lead on issues and crisis communications, working closely with our InfoSec, Risk, Legal, Marketing, Product and Compliance teams. You’ll also be comfortable with briefing C-Suite team members for media interviews, speaker engagement and keeping them informed of relevant press office updates.

You’ll be at home working across Corporate Affairs and Marketing on integrated multi-discipline campaigns. You’ll also have an awareness of the political landscape and a good sense of judgement.

You’ll support our Senior Communications Executive, they have responsibility for our press office, awards and speaker engagement activities, and work closely with our Senior Consumer PR Manager, Public Affairs Lead and Social Media Lead on integrated external affairs campaigns..

We want to change the energy retail market for the better. To do that, we need people who are committed to driving forward campaigns, challenging the status quo and constantly innovating to make it happen.

There has never been a more important time to join the mission so if you’re a corporate communications specialist, please apply.

Your key outcomes will be:

  •  8+ years experience of working in corporate affairs and in delivering media campaigns (energy background is not a requirement of the role).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong ability to translate complex information for external audiences.
  • An in-depth understanding of how to run a best in class press office function.
  • Great media acumen, and strategic and tactical judgement.
  • Experience of handling issues and crisis communications.
  • You’ll be comfortable working in a very fast paced environment. OVO is constantly evolving with an entrepreneurial approach to ‘find a better way’.
  • Upbeat and results-focused - with a strong delivery edge and a desire to tackle complex challenges head on.
  • Highly responsive and proactive in everything you do.
  • Self-confident but also humble enough to critically appraise your own work.
  • Willing to work out of hours where required to support the press office function.

You’ll be a successful Corporate Communications & News Lead here at OVO if you have…

  • Experience of working in a press office in-house/or at an agency.
  • Strong commercial acumen and an ability to understand business needs and how this translates into external engagement and media campaigns.
