The Difference You will Make:

We are in search of a Legal Counsel covering Mexico legal matters as part of the Latin America (LATAM) team. This role reports to the Country Lawyer for Mexico, and serves as legal partner to many other teams outside Legal. Collaboration will be a key attribute as this role will work very closely with the other members of the LATAM Legal team and the Mexico Airbnb team, as well as peers globally. This role is based in Mexico.

A Typical Day: 

• Advise on, draft and negotiate commercial contracts and documents for Mexico.
• Provide corporate governance advice and be responsible for the compliance of the Airbnb Mexican legal entity - including partners' resolutions, statutory filings and managing deadlines to ensure corporate compliance. 
• Deliver clear, effective and practical legal advice to the various teams (supply, communications, marketing, public policy, etc.) in a wide array of legal matters for Mexico.
• Provide distilled legal risk assessments on company initiatives with practical solutions for risk mitigation in support of the business. 
• Address and coordinate consumer and commercial litigation matters, as required.
• Support from a legal perspective trust and safety related matters.
• Effectively collaborate with international colleagues, whether in LATAM or abroad, to provide globally aligned legal advice that appropriately balances domestic and global perspectives and needs.

Your Expertise:

• Law degree in Mexico, with strong academic credentials. A master’s degree is a plus.
• At least 8 years’ post-qualification experience, including ideally a mix of law firm and in-house counseling.
• Fluency (reading/writing/speaking) in English is essential.  Portuguese is a plus.
• Ideally, knowledge and experience in commercial contracts, corporate governance, consumer protection, regulatory and/or labor law in Mexico. 
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Exceptional ability to draft and review commercial agreements with both private entities and government agencies.
• Consistently delivers creative, thoughtful and business-oriented results.
• Ability to spot and assess legal risks, and provide actionable recommendations in a clear and concise manner, with attention to detail.
• Some travel may be required.
• Comfortable and adaptable working in a fast-paced environment, with an ability to prioritize and work under pressure.
• Highly collaborative, proactive, team-oriented person. 
• High integrity and a proven ability to function independently while exercising good judgment.
• Proven track record working with outside counsel, setting clear expectations and objectives when engaging with them.
• Intellectually curious, open-minded, adaptable, comfortable with ambiguity and risk, and excited by dynamic change.
• Highly collaborative with excellent communication and listening skills.
