ABOUT THE ROLE

In the Country Lead role at Purpose, you will manage and lead the local Indonesian team in ensuring the successful delivery of projects with our clients/partners as well as steering the growth of the organisation in Indonesia and the region. Working jointly with the local leadership team and global Partners - you will be responsible for adapting and driving the business development and growth strategy by building on the successful delivery of our ongoing projects. 

The Country Lead role is a Director level position. The role will include serving as a Principal on projects and Business Development, developing and cultivating relationships with senior clients, partners, and stakeholders, and guiding our teams to ensure we are delivering work that meets our clients expectations. As an acknowledged leader in your field of expertise, you will serve as a trusted advisor on social impact to our clients in the philanthropic, non-profit, multilateral, and corporate sectors.

We're seeking someone with a proven track record in leading social impact initiatives either in-house at a foundation, non-profit, or business; a demonstrated track record in designing and executing public engagement strategies, with a particular focus on digital and technology; a proven ability to generate funding and revenue; and significant experience of managing and leading teams. The role is based in Indonesia and reports to the Managing Director.  

 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Delivery

  • Acting as the Principal across projects, responsible for high-level client, partner, and stakeholder management
  • Leading and guiding project teams of strategists, creatives, and PMs
  • Setting and maintaining the highest standards for deliverables, both internal and external
  • Participating in problem solving of staff resourcing across projects and BD 
  • Business insights reporting: Drawing on P&L, Pipeline, Dashboards, Revenue Forecast and Utilisation to shape ongoing decisions around delivery
  • Coordination with I&C, Principals, and Partnerships leaders to ensure our teams and operations are set up to enable strategic and effective delivery of all our work

 

People & Operations

  • Playing a lead role in the overall Indonesia operations leading the team and engaging with the different functional areas to ensure the smooth running of our growing office
  • Participating in strategic decision-making on key questions such as the development of our business model and offering, partnerships, and the growth of the organisation
  • Collaborating regularly with the Partnerships, Technology and Creative teams across Purpose’s international network
  • Serving as a leader, both internally and externally, on climate or specific area of expertise
  • Manage multiple team members with their long-term career in mind; developing their professional skills as managers. 
  • Set the standard and model leadership on internal and external projects through strong expectation management, direction and delegation; and foster ownership and commitment in others.
  • Set expectations and hold self and others accountable to Purpose principles; creating an open environment for two-way feedback, and supporting and guiding others in maintaining positive and respectful relationships, particularly during times of conflict/change.
  • Supporting the advancement of values and observable behaviours across the Indonesia team

 

Business Development 

  • Leading the partnerships and business development function of the Indonesia office to proactively seek out new clients/donors and partners from the philanthropic, NGO, multilateral, business, and government sectors
  • Grow the Purpose pipeline by building and expanding your network to convert leads into Purpose business opportunities, leveraging issue or functional expertise.
  • Researching and staying abreast of best practices in social impact, online engagement, corporate social responsibility and social innovation
  • Utilising prior experience to shape Purpose’s direction and offering - with other directors and global leadership team
  • Define long-term strategic brand/positioning goals, target audience and insight, unique value proposition and differentiation, in order to strengthen our position in the local market through thought leadership activities (to include contributing to, refining, and creating new Purpose IP, frameworks, and methodologies).
  • Develop and authoritatively present proposals to clients, donors and wider stakeholder groups. Setting and maintaining the highest standards for proposals and pitches to clients
  • Contributing to the external reputation and exposure of Purpose through issue and/or capability-focused thought leadership (events / publishing content)

 

ABOUT YOU

We think you will be a successful candidate if you have:

  • 12+ years work experience, including several years managing multidisciplinary teams and complex projects, ideally in social impact on progressive issues either in a communications agency, non-profit organisation, or philanthropy
  • Strong client-facing and relationship-building experience, ideally from a leading consultancy or agency, serving as a lead representative with clients and stakeholders, including senior leadership of major foundations, corporations and NGOs, with a demonstrated track record leading complex projects with multidisciplinary teams in a deadline-driven environment
  • Cultivate trusted advisor status with senior client contacts; able to steer stakeholders towards stronger outcomes; and negotiates persuasively to create solutions that address the interests of others; fosters a strong global network with key influencers (e.g., governments, corporations, journalists, international NGOs, grassroots NGOs, foundations)
  • Passion, a sharp mind, high integrity, a hands-on attitude, and an entrepreneurial, problem-solving spirit – you've had success in building programs, initiatives or organisations that employ new, innovative models to drive social impact
  • Digital fluency, especially with regard to social media tools and their role in public engagement
  • Sophisticated interpersonal and mature client/funder management skills
  • Experience as a professional development manager to 4 or more people simultaneously, ideally of distributed, multidisciplinary teams.
  • Highly networked in the social impact and/or philanthropic sectors
  • Confident and sophisticated communicator, presenter, and writer

We think you will be an exceptional candidate if you have:

  • Some experience in the climate change space is strongly preferred, but we are open to candidates with a strong and nuanced point of view on how to reinvigorate the climate movement and significant experience on other major global issues
  • Knowledge of the global climate landscape, including a well-developed perspective on opportunities for impact
  • Experience running iterative, agile, and/or lean initiatives that emphasise experimentation and scaling of success, ideally within a technology context
  • Established relationships with key climate groups, including experience working in partnership
