Data Engineer II, Site Analytics Engineering
Our Opportunity:
Chewy is seeking a Data Engineer II to join our Site Analytics Engineering team within our Bellevue, WA office.In this role, you will craft, build, and sustain the data infrastructure that powers Chewy’s analytics, experimentation, and data-driven decision-making across our digital platform. You’ll partner closely with engineering, analytics, EDS (Enterprise Data Services), and product partners to develop reliable data pipelines and ensure timely access to high-quality data. You will play a meaningful role in building secure, high-performance streaming and batch data systems that can grow with our evolving analytics and experimentation needs, using cloud-native technologies and current engineering practices.
What You’ll Do:
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines that support streaming, near real-time, and batch processing patterns.
- Build robust data ingestion and transformation workflows using current data engineering tools and languages.
- Collaborate multi-functionally with engineers, analysts, and product managers to assemble requirements and deliver high-quality, reliable data solutions.
- Work with large-scale structured, semi-structured, and unstructured datasets, ensuring data quality, consistency, and performance.
- Build and run infrastructure-as-code to deploy and operate cloud-based data services in a secure, scalable, and repeatable manner.
- Build and implement comprehensive monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions to ensure operational transparency and reliability of data pipelines.
- Implement data security standard methodologies including access control, encryption, and compliance with regulatory standards to protect critical information.
What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or similar subject area (or equivalent professional experience)
- 5+ years of professional experience in data engineering or backend data infrastructure roles.
- Hands-on expertise with Python for data processing and building modular, production-grade pipelines.
- Proficiency streaming data platforms such as Apache Kafka, AWS Kinesis, or comparable technologies.
- Hands-on experience in Airflow, AWS Glue, AWS Kinesis, and Apache Kafka for mobilizing and streaming data workflows
- Proficiency in Snowflake and Spark, including query tuning and working with high-volume datasets.
- Experience with AWS Lambda for building lightweight, event-driven data workflows.
- Proven record of integrating data from external APIs and handling ingestion workflows from source systems to data warehouses.
- Proficiency working with both structured data (e.g., relational schemas) andsemi-structured formats (e.g., JSON, nested data).
- Expertise using role-based access control, data governance,andsecure data management in Snowflake and AWS
- Proficiency with Terraform and infrastructure-as-code to build, provision, and handle cloud-based data infrastructure.
- Good knowledge of core AWS services, including S3, Lambda, ECS, CloudWatch, and IAM.
- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions.
- Outstanding communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work multi-functionally with analytics, engineering, and product teams.
- Proficiency with Docker and deploying data services in ECS Fargate or Kubernetes environments is a plus.
The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant.

Exempt salary team members have unlimited PTO, subject to manager approval. Team members will receive six paid holidays per year. Team members may be eligible for paid sick and family leave in compliance with applicable state and local regulations.
