CNET is looking for a talented, results-oriented, and innovative Data Science Manager to join our team. In this role you will enable your team to solve business problems through the development of software solutions driven by machine learning, statistical modeling, and optimization techniques. You will act as a player-coach to solve business critical problems inside a company that has a strong culture of measurement, testing, and optimization across all facets of its marketing, publishing, and customer acquisition activities. What You'll Do

  • Lead a team of 2-3 data scientists by defining technology strategy, creating and managing a project portfolio, tracking key performance indicators, and driving daily execution to achieve desired business outcomes.
  • Get hands on with developing, deploying, and monitoring machine learning solutions to problems like: content recommendation, web personalization, and forecasting. 
  • Provide necessary coaching and assistance to team members on technology development, project execution, and personal development.
  • Collaborate effectively with other functions to set team priorities, influence work approaches, and solve operational/organizational challenges.
  • Help create and promote an inclusive environment where team members feel comfortable and empowered.
  • Become very familiar with our unique AdTech and MarTech stacks and the role of data with each of them.
  • Provide guidance to executives on data science capabilities (like LLMs and other uses of NLP) and contribute input on new strategic initiatives to grow the business. 
  • Work with Data Science Managers from other industry groups to develop best practices

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of professional experience in a data science role with an MS or PhD in STEM with a focus in ML, statistical modeling, or optimization
  • 2+ years of relevant experience managing a team of data scientists.
  • Proficiency in Python and experience with Databricks.
  • Ability to methodically understand business context, define value propositions, and formulate and solve complex data science problems.
  • Ability to intake business requests/priorities and then prioritize bodies of work, communicating project status, timeline, and technical results to broad audiences.
  • Bias to action and proactive communicator.
  • Ability to develop a team of varied levels of seniority and expertise through direct leadership, training, and feedback.
  • Ability to aggregate and assess impact of the team’s work, staff projects accordingly based on technical skills, career goals, and priority.

Candidates with specific expertise in any of these areas will be highly preferred.

  • Knowledge of end-to-end software development, deployment, and monitoring workflows.
  • Ability to develop a team of varied levels of seniority and expertise through direct leadership, training, and feedback.
  • Ability to aggregate and assess impact of the team’s work, staff projects accordingly based on technical skills, career goals, and priority.
  • Experience contributing to the development of the broader DS team culture and identity by fostering an environment that leverages subject matter expertise to shared learnings.
  • Experience leveraging technical expertise to identify the feasibility of potential DS projects, ensuring the team is delivering value on problems that are feasible.
  • Experience working with direct reports to create development plans and then actively making available opportunities for growth that align with goals, including the preparation and delivery of reviews.

Compensation

  • Cash Compensation Range: $150,000-$200,000* *Note actual salary is based on geographic location, qualifications, and experience.
