We are growing our Data Science team, made up of three multi-functional squads building ML products.

This role in a nutshell:

This is a 6-month fixed-term role, and we are looking for a (Senior) Data Scientist with a strong analytical background, and hands-on experience creating data science products. You'll be part of our centralised Data Science team and play a key role in helping technical and non-technical stakeholders make data-driven decisions. 

We're a team of 6-8 part of a bigger department of ca. 40 consisting of Data Engineers, Analysts, Data Scientists and Product Managers supporting the commercial and operational side, providing immense opportunity to get exposure in diverse business areas.

Your key outcomes will be:

  • Collaborate closely with key business stakeholders to identify and define advanced data science initiatives. You'll play a pivotal role in translating complex business challenges into actionable data-driven opportunities, ensuring alignment with our strategic goals.
  • Take ownership of the end-to-end lifecycle of sophisticated machine learning models, from conceptualization and advanced modeling to deployment and ongoing maintenance in production environments. You'll apply your expertise in Python, SQL, and GCP to develop these models, adhering to the highest standards of model governance and ethical AI practices.
  • Lead the selection and application of the most appropriate data science methodologies for each use case. This may range from developing complex machine learning algorithms to designing and evaluating robust A/B testing frameworks.
  • Effectively communicate complex data-driven insights to stakeholders at all levels of technical expertise and seniority. Utilise advanced data visualisation techniques to narrate compelling stories with data, ensuring the practical application of analytical outputs.
  • Actively contribute to the data science community within and outside the organisation to foster a culture of collaboration, openness, and innovation. Stay abreast of the latest developments in data science and technology, bringing innovative solutions and best practices to the team.
  • Use your deep understanding of data engineering principles to design, develop, and deploy scalable data models and algorithms. Lead initiatives to enhance data accessibility and maturity across the organisation, promoting automation and innovative use of data.
  • Design and implement complex experiments to extract, merge, manage, and analyse data from diverse sources, delivering tailored insights to stakeholders. Utilise advanced visualisation tools to communicate these insights effectively.

You’ll be a successful Data Scientist at OVO if you have…

  • Extensive experience in a data science role with a proven track record of delivering impactful data science solutions based on Machine Learning and statistical modeling.
  • Advanced knowledge of cloud platforms (specifically GCP), machine learning frameworks, and data science tooling (SQL, Python, GitHub). Experience with DataRobot, Tableau, and similar tools is highly desirable.
  • Experience with scheduling platforms like Airflow and an understanding of advanced programming principles are highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated leadership in the design, development, and deployment of advanced machine learning models.
  • Proven experience in a production environment, able to make a compromise between sophistication, deployability and maintainability of a data science solution.
  • Ability to translate complex business requirements into data science opportunities. Skilled in presenting sophisticated concepts to senior stakeholders and leading cross-functional project teams to successful deployment.
  • Proficiency in a wide range of statistical, machine learning, and data mining techniques. Expertise in process mining, unsupervised learning, predictive modelling, and ethical AI practices.
  • A growth mindset with a passion for continuous learning and knowledge sharing. Experience in fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • A degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering) is desirable, or equivalent experience.

We’ll pay you between £60,000 and £80,000, depending on your specific skills and experience. 

We keep our pay ranges broad on purpose to give us, and you, flexibility to match your experience to our zero carbon mission.

You’ll be eligible for an on-target bonus of 15%. We have one OVO bonus plan that focuses on the collective performance of our people to deliver our Plan Zero goal.
