This role sits at the heart of our Operations organization, ensuring our data platform is secure, reliable, scalable, and cost-efficient.You’ll own the full ELT / ETL lifecycle, lead the Azure-to-BigQuery migration, and build systems that transform raw data into trusted, accessible, and business-ready assets. The role requires a strong operations mindset, with a focus on process reliability, performance, security, cost control, and clear accountability.

You’ll also play a vital role in defining business logic, promoting documentation best practices, and acting as a bridge between technical and business stakeholders — enabling data products that are trustworthy, well-understood, and impactful.

Your Tasks

  • Lead and mentor a team of Data Engineers and Analytics Engineers

  • Drive the full ELT / ETL process, including ingestion (Airbyte), transformation (dbt), and orchestration (Orchestra)

  • Lead the migration from Azure to BigQuery, ensuring stability and scalability throughout

  • Maintain a strong focus on data quality, governance, lineage, and security

  • Monitor and optimize data platform performance and cost-efficiency

  • Define and implement clear, versioned, and documented business logic

  • Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, Analytics to unlock value from data

  • Support and structure tracking instrumentation and event data modeling (Amplitude, Segment, etc.)

  • Prepare data for AI and ML applications in collaboration with cross-functional teams

  • Champion excellent documentation and observability practices

  • Act as a connector between technical implementation and business context, helping teams understand how data flows, what it means, and how to use it responsibly

  • Help shape hiring, career development, and ways of working within the DataOps team

You Bring

  • Proven experience leading DataOps, Data Engineering, or Analytics Engineering teams

  • Deep hands-on experience with data pipelines, orchestration, warehousing, and ELT architectures

  • Strong technical skills with BigQuery, Airbyte, Orchestra, and dbt

  • Experience with Azure Data Stack and migrating to modern cloud data platforms

  • Strong operations mindset — you think in terms of stability, SLAs, monitoring, and process excellence

  • Track record of defining and maintaining clear business rules and transformation logic

  • Passion for documentation and building reproducible, transparent data systems

  • Excellent communication skills — able to speak both the language of engineers and business stakeholders

  • Background in SaaS or product-led environments is a big plus

  • Familiarity with tracking frameworks and product analytics data (Amplitude, Segment, etc.) is a plus.

  • Experience supporting AI and ML data readiness, and excitement for AI-powered use casesNice to have: 

  • Experience with data observability and testing frameworks (e.g. Great Expectations, dbt tests, Monte Carlo)

  • Familiarity with data governance, privacy regulations, and consent data flows

  • Prior exposure to data democratization and building self-serve data environments

  • Experience working with Business Intelligence tools (e.g. Power BI, Metabase, Looker)
