Full-time - Hourly

At Lyft, our mission is to improve people’s lives through the world’s best transportation. To do this, we start with our own community by creating an open, inclusive, and diverse organization.

Lyft is pleased to launch our 2024 Associate Program. We are hiring an Associate to support our Design Program Management team. This 6-month program is designed to give individuals who show a strong interest in Design Operations but who might otherwise face barriers in transitioning to this career track an opportunity to gain experience. Part of the Associateship will be dedicated to helping you build your portfolio, and you can expect to end the program with a peer-reviewed representation of your work to support your professional journey.

Design Program Managers (aka DPMs) are strategic partners to design leadership, guiding and driving design work forward. The DPM Associate will focus on projects that impact the entire Product Design process; this might look like helping create learning and development programs across our design functions, identifying and scaling the right tools and processes to make our teams successful, or helping to facilitate and produce moments for our team to meaningfully come together.

We welcome candidates from every background for this role. We strongly encourage you to apply if you identify as someone who has faced systemic challenges in transitioning to a role in tech and/or the discipline of Design Program Management. Systemic challenges might include, for example, barriers to entry based on race, socioeconomic status, college education, or criminal history.

Applications will be open until 5:00pm Pacific Time on Friday, April 12, 2024

Responsibilities:
  • Work with design teams to create programs that enable design to function at its best;
  • Help the team learn and grow by organizing education and training efforts (this might look like helping streamline our Design onboarding process);
  • Manage communications in and around the team to build visibility and alignment (this might look like ensuring spreadsheets tracking work across different teams are utilized, updated, and shared);
  • Develop and drive team-wide processes (this might look like creating a new intake process to manage accessibility requests);
  • Collaborate with a diverse team of Product Designers, UX Researchers, Content Designers, Illustrators, Industrial Designers, and Design Program Managers;
  • Invest in your own growth and seek out learning opportunities;
  • Be open and excited about being mentored;
  • Stay curious–ask questions, even the ones that seem obvious!
Experience:
  • Must be based in San Francisco or New York;
  • College degree not required, but a minimum of four - six years of full time work experience in any industry is required;
  • Demonstrated interest in and passion for Design Ops or Design Program Management;
  • Experience running projects and facilitating small groups of people to achieve a collective goal, including project management or logistics;
  • Basic familiarity with design processes;
  • Detail-oriented with solid organizational skills;
  • Great oral and written communication skills;
  • Self-motivated with a high capacity and eagerness to learn;
  • A sense of curiosity, a positive attitude, and a collaborative spirit;
  • A growth mindset and interest in self-reflection;
  • Bonus Points: Passion for sustainability and/or transportation, experience as a rideshare driver or gig worker.
  • If you are currently a student in a traditional undergraduate or graduate design or UX program, keep an eye out for our internship opportunities here https://www.lyft.com/careers/university.
  • For candidates with a related (HCI, UX, Design) degree or significant industry experience, consider one of our other roles at https://www.lyft.com/careers.
Benefits:
  • Great medical, dental, and vision insurance options
  • Mental health benefits
  • Associates receive paid time off, sick time off, and company holidays
  • 401(k) plan to help save for your future

Please note that this is a full-time, hourly, temporary position of six months with holidays, healthcare, and other benefits running from August 2024 to February 2025. The program is designed to help build skills and experience in Design Program Management, but it does not necessarily lead to a full-time role in Design Program Management at Lyft. While we cannot support relocation costs, Associates will receive a commuter subsidy up to $200 per month. This benefit includes mass transit and parking.

Lyft is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer committed to an inclusive and diverse workplace. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regards to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status or any other basis prohibited by law. We also consider qualified applicants with criminal histories consistent with applicable federal, state and local law.

This role will be in-office on a hybrid schedule — Team Members will be expected to work in the office 3 days per week on Mondays, Thursdays and a team-specific third day.
