Developers and community matter. Our users and contributors have helped ensure that the Elastic Stack (including Elasticsearch, Kibana, Beats, and Logstash) is more than just code — they are free and open projects that people love to use and love to talk about. Community is core to our company identity.

Are you the kind of person who is keen on sharing technology with the world and supporting our global user-base? Your activities as a Developer Advocate at Elastic include:

  • presenting at in-person and virtual conferences or meetups
  • answering questions on Discuss (our forum) and Slack
  • sharing content on elastic.co or our YouTube channel
  • contributing code on GitHub both to Elastic and external repositories

The DevRel team's mission is to educate and help our users succeed by being (or the willingness to become) an expert in Elasticsearch and the Elastic Stack.

What you will be doing:
  • Foster the Elastic Community in North America with a strong preference for San Francisco, CA.
  • Create technical content around the Elastic Stack for talks, blog posts, videos, and demos.
  • Speak at virtual and in-person events like conferences, meetups, and lunch & learn sessions in your location and throughout North America.
  • Answer technical questions on Discuss, Slack, social media, and at events.
  • Contribute to Elastic repositories or external ones to integrate better with Elastic technologies.
  • Help users be successful with Elastic’s stack, solutions, and cloud offerings.
What you bring along:
  • 2 + years of professional experience and technical background in either of Golang, DevOps, Data Science.
  • Empathy for the community to help them solve their issues.
  • Comfortable working with a highly distributed teams.
  • Experience working self-driven and self-organizing.
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills in English.
Bonus points:
  • Familiarity with and passion for the Elastic Stack.
  • Demonstrated ability to create compelling content about technology — including speaking, writing, and demoing.
  • Production experience with technologies that complement Elastic’s technologies — from Generative AI to Kubernetes.
  • Involvement in past Elastic Community events as speaker or organizer.
  • Experience with open source software or commercial open source companies.

 

Compensation for this role is in the form of base salary.  This role does not have a variable compensation component.  

The typical starting salary range for new hires in this role is listed below.  In select locations (including Seattle WA, Los Angeles CA, the San Francisco Bay Area CA, and the New York City Metro Area), an alternate range may apply as specified below. 

These ranges represent the lowest to highest salary we reasonably and in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting.  We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the ranges may be modified in the future.  

An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.

Elastic believes that employees should have the opportunity to share in the value that we create together for our shareholders. Therefore, in addition to cash compensation, this role is currently eligible to participate in Elastic's stock program.  Our total rewards package also includes a company-matched 401k with dollar-for-dollar matching up to 6% of eligible earnings, along with a range of other benefits offered with a holistic emphasis on employee well-being.
