We're seeking a PHP Developer Advocate to join our Developer Relations team, driving enablement for MongoDB capabilities in the PHP community. As developers increasingly choose MongoDB as their data platform, your role will involve directly engaging the community, creating inspiring resources and content, and collaborating with a global team of skilled Developer Advocates. From startups to Fortune 500 companies, you'll empower developers to integrate advanced data capabilities into their apps and solutions. Candidate Profile

We are excited to welcome an influential and established voice in the PHP community to our team. 

As an experienced PHP developer, you have produced various types of technical content, such as videos, blog posts, and conference talks. Your content has shared technical insights, led discussions, and inspired others to use best practices. Your passion lies in sharing your knowledge and enabling fellow developers with modern technology and best practices.

You have at least five years of experience in a technical role, preferably as a developer, working within an enterprise or directly with customers. You might have some experience as a developer advocate or have been doing advocacy tasks, and now looking to do it full-time. Although it is not mandatory, a general understanding of MongoDB would be a plus. However, you must have extensive experience with one major framework and a complementary programming language. 

Your contributions to open-source projects or other code-sharing platforms demonstrate your ability and enthusiasm to help others get started or solve innovative problems.

As an effective teacher, you can explain complex issues in a simple, understandable manner. You will develop expertise in MongoDB, document modeling, and emerging topics across our industry while appreciating the key capabilities of our platform.

Our team is built to work together, share knowledge, and help each other grow. You will work with others at all levels, supporting peer reviews, building demos, delivering sessions, and creating content.

Above all, you should be genuinely passionate about enabling other developers to be more productive and successful in their day-to-day jobs.

Position Expectations
  • Leverage your strong foundation in PHP and database technologies to become a recognized authority on MongoDB within the organization and the wider community
  • Maintain and continually develop proficiency in one or more complementary programming languages to communicate with developers and contribute to product improvements effectively
  • Work closely with the product and growth marketing teams, offering expert counsel on the most effective ways to engage and enable the developer community online and in person
  • Partner with our marketing teams to co-create compelling, authentic messaging and strategies that resonate with our target audiences
  • Support our community team to help with the growth of our MongoDB user groups (MUGs) and our champions and influencer programs across your region
Requirements
  • Expertise in building solutions with PHP technologies and a web development framework (e.g. Laravel, Symfony, CodeIgniter)
  • Five years of technical experience, preferably as a developer, with some advocacy experience, and a high-level understanding of MongoDB would be a plus
  • Proficiency with an additional, complementary programming language
  • A prolific author of content (tutorials, how-to guides, readme) to help developers learn PHP
  • Shared code and content with the intent to support/enable other PHP developers
  • Great track record of presenting at events or via YouTube, webinars, or live streams on PHP topics
  • 10% travel
