DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER, CONSUMER HARDWARE (STARLINK)

At SpaceX we’re leveraging our experience building rockets and spacecraft to deploy Starlink, the world’s most advanced broadband internet system. Starlink is the world’s largest satellite constellation and provides fast, reliable internet to 2M+ users worldwide. We design, build, test, and operate all parts of the system – thousands of satellites, consumer receivers that allow users to connect within minutes of unboxing, and the software that brings it all together. We’ve only begun to scratch the surface of Starlink’s potential global impact and are looking for best-in-class engineers to help maximize Starlink’s utility for communities and businesses around the globe.

In this position, you will wear numerous hats and engage a broad set of technical fields to ensure the design and production of many Starlink products. You will work with the design, manufacturing, and reliability teams to design, build, and test new accessories for the product catalog. You will work closely with all engineering and growth teams to bring new products to market, ensuring they meet the highest technical and reliability standards. You will work with the electrical, mechanical, and antenna disciplines to solve design challenges while looking for ways to improve the overall user experience. In this role, you'll get a unique glimpse into the high-level workings of the program and the launch process for new products.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Guide the new product development towards meeting mechanical, electrical, safety, and radio requirements
  • Determine the applicability of international technical standards to Starlink terminals
  • Develop qualification test plans and oversee the third-party execution of product requirements testing
  • Coordinate across electrical, mechanical, and antenna disciplines to solve design challenges
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects and provide regular updates on schedule and deliverables to senior management
  • Work across all stakeholders to ensure feedback is incorporated into project schedules and statement of work
  • Design and implement electro-mechanical assembly and test processes
  • Lead prototype builds ensuring incremental milestones for the production development are met
  • Lead facilities development, floor layout, headcount requirements, and material flow definition
  • Evaluate return on investment for potential automation opportunities 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or physics
  • 1+ years of experience leading engineering projects (internship and extracurricular experience is applicable)

PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • 1+ years of experience managing product technical requirements
  • 1+ years of experience in mechanical or electrical product design
  • 1+ years of experience with project management (technical scope, schedule, cost)
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a highly cross-functional role
  • Outstanding project management skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, autonomously driven, and demanding startup atmosphere.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:            

Pay range:     Development Engineer/Level I: $95,000.00 - $115,000.00/per year     Development Engineer/Level II: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00/per year  

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
