Our Opportunity:

Chewy is looking for a Legal Director and Associate General Counsel, Pharmacy and Healthcare, to join our Chewy Legal Team. Based in one of our 4 corporate offices (Plantation, FL, Bellevue, WA, Boston, MA or Minneapolis, MN), the Legal Director and Associate General Counsel, Pharmacy and Health Care, position is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to join a world-class legal team supporting the fast-growing and cutting edge pet-centric healthcare and pharmaceutical businesses of Chewy, Inc.  The successful candidate will advise the healthcare/pharmaceutical business leaders on legal issues related to the timely fulfillment of critical medications for pets and collaborate closely with veterinarians and the veterinarian community.  The successful candidate will lead a team of attorneys, in addition to closely collaborating with internal business partners.

What You'll Do:

  • Identify, interpret, and apply, in a highly ethical manner, applicable legal and regulatory requirements and determine their implications for the business
  • Provide guidance regarding developments in federal and state laws and relevant litigation regarding the company’s healthcare/pharmaceutical vertical
  • Manage and develop a team of attorneys
  • Provide guidance and work collaboratively with internal business clients on policies and procedures to ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements
  • Cultivate an environment where team members respect and adhere to company standards of integrity and ethics by integrating these values into all programs
  • Develop and provide relevant trainings to team members at all levels of the organization regarding healthcare, pharmacy operations, and related matters
  • Negotiate healthcare and medication sourcing and related agreements
  • Review and advise on healthcare/medication related advertisements and promotions
  • Attend Board of Pharmacy meetings in select states and cultivate positive relationships

What You'll Need:

  • Significant experience with the interplay of federal and state pharmaceutical laws and veterinary medicine laws, such as prescription validation and anti-kickback
  • Recognized subject matter expertise, including in guiding development of new and improved products, processes, and systems
  • Experience with Boards of Pharmacy, FDA, and other regulatory bodies
  • Be a team player, self-motivated, able to demonstrate a history of successfully resolving challenging legal issues and able to effectively deliver sound and clear legal advice in a fast-paced business setting
  • Ability to problem-solve in a highly ethical and legally-compliant manner
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and build consensus among various stakeholders while maintaining a compliant approach
  • Demonstrated ability to distill complex concepts or situations into concise and compelling communications and ability to influence business clients and effect necessary change in policies or behaviors
  • 15+ years relevant legal experience, including law firm and in-house experience, demonstrating continual growth and the ability to succeed
  • Active license to practice law in at least one state and ability to become licensed as in-house counsel in the relevant jurisdiction
  • Travel as needed, up to 10-20%

 

Compensation & Benefits: 

Our salary range for a Director, Assistant General Counsel position is $180,500.00 - $288,500.00. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant.

Non-exempt hourly team members accrue paid time off (PTO) while salaried-exempt team members have unlimited PTO, subject to manager approval. Non-exempt hourly team members in Fulfillment Centers and Customer Service are also eligible for additional unplanned unpaid time off (UTO). Team members will receive six paid holidays per year. Team members may be eligible for paid sick and family leave in compliance with applicable state and local regulations.
