About the role

Crunchyroll is looking for a business-minded deal maker to join our legal team. The Director, Business & Legal Affairs will support business development deals, M&A, and talent/celebrity agreements. Reporting directly to our SVP, Head Business and Legal Affairs, you will work with our legal and business teams as they imagine and create innovative ways to share the joy of anime globally.

  • You will partner with our legal team and business leads and assume authority and accountability for outcomes
  • You will structure, draft, and negotiate different agreements (distribution and platform deals, talent/celebrity partnerships, M&A, and vendor licenses)
  • You will provide practical advice and solutions to internal partners on all related legal matters
  • You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business development, distribution, content, marketing, talent, finance, and product, to ensure agreement and partner opportunities
  • You will manage deals (in the US and globally) to ensure all legal documents remain consistent
  • You excel in environments where you can work in new and developing areas of the law, tempered by an appreciation of the associated complexity and risk

About You

We get excited about candidates, like you, because...

You have 4 - 6 years of related experience, with proficiency in entertainment, tech, and general corporate matters. You have worked in-house or at a top-tier law firm providing in-house support for streaming, entertainment, or tech companies. JD and active membership in good standing with the California or New York Bar required.

  • Knowledgeable about platforms, distribution, marketing, talent, advertising tech, vendor, and service agreements
  • You have experience with the global media and entertainment industry and the ever-evolving industry landscape
  • You have practical knowledge of the digital VOD, TV, film, and tech industries
  • You have experience negotiating complex agreements
  • You have excellent drafting skills, and can run multiple work streams simultaneously with precision, meeting deadlines
  • You can influence, and establish relationships and trust with internal and external partners
  • You stay up-to-date with industry trends and developments to inform strategy and decision-making
  • You have an outgoing personality and the ability to take on whatever comes your way is definitely a plus!

The Pay Range for this position is listed. Actual pay will vary based on factors including, but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Crunchyroll’s Total Rewards offerings for employees.
