Chewy is hiring a Director, Data Engineering, for our Enterprise Data Systems (EDS) team. This is a leadership opportunity with exposure across the business, influencing the vision and products for this new and growing line of business. The Director of Enterprise Data Systems (EDS) must have a deep technical background in data and analytics to shape enterprise data strategy and offer insightful data solutions to business partners.

As a technology leader, you will own creating an experience that wows and delights our pet parents and build highly scalable, resilient platforms and shaping the EDS to be a world class organization. You will be involved in high-impact decisions and initiatives undertaken by the company, giving you a front row seat to shape Chewy’s growth!

What you’ll do:

  • Provide strong leadership and vision to drive Enterprise Data Systems team to deliver impactful data and analytical solutions for business and partners.
  • End to end ownership of the data engineering and business intelligence team, including gathering inputs from leadership and partner teams, roadmap planning and prioritization, promoting standard processes, and mentoring and developing your team
  • Lead a global data and analytics team of experienced Data Architects, Software Development Managers, Data Scientists, Data Engineers and Business Intelligence (BI) Engineers on multi-functional projects working with senior business leaders on enterprise initiatives.  Recruit, hire, and mentor exceptional data, software, BI and quality engineers
  • Shape the enterprise data and analytics strategy to build an extraordinary cloud-based data and analytical platforms
  • Generate and analyze engineering metrics to inform data driven decisions and participate in strategic planning with product management, engineering management, and technical leads
  • Possess the ability to lead and empower people and encourage teamwork, an ability to communicate optimally with senior management, and a clear vision of what resolves a successful solution for the customer and for the company
  • Effectively collaborate with a diverse, dedicated team building and deploying large scale, cloud native web applications and service-oriented platforms

What you'll need:

  • 10+ years of experience in Data Engineering and Analytics field including 5+ years of successful business intelligence or analytics team management experience, including hiring, talent development, performance management, and delivering results
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or related field
  • Design standard processes for analytical platforms, data engineering, data quality and governance, data science and Machine Learning (ML) methodologies
  • Hands on experience with managing data ecosystem in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets
  • Excellent knowledge of Cloud Data Warehouse, Data Lake principles and reporting. Expertise in data engineering, building data warehouse, data mart and data pipelines
  • Experience gathering business requirements, using industry standard business intelligence tools to extract data, formulate metrics, and build reports
  • Understand end to end data management interactions and dependencies across complex data pipelines and data transformation and how they impact business decisions
  • Proven track record of successful communication of analytical outcomes through written communication, including an ability to effectively communicate with both business and technical teams
  • Experience with implementing data governance and data management standard processes
  • Experience in driving and embracing change and transformation in the organization
  • Cloud experience (AWS preferred), Snowflake, Cloud native services such as Kafka, Airflow, Glue, etc.
  • Experience with technologies such as Tableau, Splunk, Python, Knime, Clover, Alation
  • Position may require travel

Bonus:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience (Computer science, Business administration or related fields)
  • Experience in Ecommerce and fast paces companies
  • Demonstrated practical knowledge in the areas of deep learning, LLM/Generative AI.
