Pinterest is a visual discovery platform where people find inspiration and bring their passions to life. Shopping is a core part of this experience. We are increasing our investment in Commerce and looking for a visionary Engineering Director of Shopping Platform Infrastructure. This leader will be crucial in expanding our Shopping Platform and responsible for scaling our catalog infrastructure tenfold. They will ensure the system is robust, reliable, and prepared to support the future of Shopping on Pinterest, playing a key role in developing and executing our company-wide Shopping strategy to enable seamless product discovery and fuel business growth.

What you'll do:

  • Lead and inspire a high-performing engineering org responsible for the Shopping Platform Infrastructure, setting a bold vision for scale, reliability, efficiency, and innovation.
  • Architect and execute a roadmap to scale our Shopping infrastructure systems by 10X to tens of billions of product items, supporting rapid growth in product listings, merchants, and user engagements.
  • Partner closely with product, data, and business teams to align catalog infrastructure with Pinterest’s overall Shopping strategy and deliver best-in-class shopping experiences.
  • Drive technical excellence in data ingestion, processing, enrichment, storage and downstream usages, ensuring catalog data is accurate, fresh, and easy to access at massive scale.
  • Champion operational excellence, implementing best practices for monitoring, reliability, and cost efficiency across all systems.
  • Manage managers and individual contributors. Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and high performance within the team and across the broader engineering organization.

What we're looking for:

  • 5+ years of management experience, with experience managing managers.
  • 10+ years of industry experience in highly scalable and performant distributed systems.
  • Proven experience leading large-scale infrastructure or platform teams, ideally in e-commerce, retail, or a high-growth technology environment.
  • Demonstrated success in architecting and scaling distributed systems to support 10X+ growth in data volume and complexity.
  • Preferred candidates may have deep technical expertise in Shopping infrastructure and standards, catalog management, data pipelines, and real-time data processing.
  • Strong strategic thinking and the ability to translate business goals into technical vision and execution.
  • Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills, with a track record of influencing company-wide strategy and delivering results in partnership with product and business leaders.
  • A bias for action, innovation, and operational rigor in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, or equivalent experience.

In-Office Requirement Statement:

  • We let the type of work you do guide the collaboration style. That means we're not always working in an office, but we continue to gather for key moments of collaboration and connection.
  • This role will need to be in the office for in-person collaboration 1-2 times per week and therefore needs to be in a commutable distance from one of the following offices: Zurich.
