DIRECTOR, ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY
The Director of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) will be responsible for the implementation of our EHS program across all SpaceX work sites within the US.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure a collaborative relationship across all SpaceX site EHS managers, standardize programs and materials and share resources across the sites, as appropriate
- Manage budget planning and tracking across the EHS teams for all sites
- Oversee the management of EHS staff including hiring, headcount planning, and performance management/reviews
- Establish and implement systems to ensure accuracy and completion of EHS required tasks and responsibilities
- Actively coach and mentor all levels of EHS employees and internal customers
- Ensure that all required environmental and safety logs, reports, and inspection records are being completed and filed as appropriate
- Assume signatory responsibility, where appropriate, on relevant local, state, and federal permit applications/renewals
- Implement and manage environmental and safety compliance and due diligence audits
- Oversee the management of consultants, as needed, including soliciting proposals, reviewing bids, contract negotiations, overseeing work assignments, reviewing deliverables, and billing
- Ensure collaborative and productive relationship with business unit executive leadership
- Establish and execute continual improvement goals in program areas such as:
- Incident prevention and investigation
- Training
- Program metrics
- Safety culture
- Oversee the management of processes, programs, and documentation as outlined by OSHA standards which include but are not limited to:
- Job hazard analyses and personal protective equipment (PPE) assessments
- Site industrial hygiene program
- Confined space entry program
- Fall protection program
- Lock-out/tag-out program
- Respiratory protection program
- Lifting/rigging program
- Electrical safety program
- Emergency response and safety contingency planning
- Oversee the management of environmental policies and procedures which include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for hazardous and non-hazardous waste management, including the Department of Transportation (DOT) and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)
- Air permitting
- Pollution prevention
- Spill prevention/response
- Storm water management
- Waste water
- Perform final Quality Assurance/Quality Check of EHS-related documentation, this can include, but is not limited to, local/state/federal permit applications, local/state/federal reporting documentation, incident reporting, training program materials, and facility policies and procedures
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 10+ years of experience in the design, development, and operational oversight of EHS disciplines
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience working in aerospace industry
- Bachelor's degree in engineering with an emphasis in occupational health and safety, environmental engineering or system safety engineering
- Experience leading a team of EHS managers, engineers, specialists and technicians
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Position is subject to pre-employment drug and random drug and alcohol testing
- Must be able to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed
- Ability to travel for to various locations including but not limited to; Florida, California, Texas, Washington
- Ability to travel internationally if required
- Ability to pass Air Force background check for Vandenberg, CA and Cape Canaveral. FL
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay range:Director, Environmental Health & Safety: $205,000.00 - $270,000.00/per year
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. ITAR REQUIREMENTS:
- To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
