About the job

We are seeking a Director of Legal Operations to join an extraordinary global legal team. Our Legal Operations team is focused on achieving operational excellence for a Legal Team of over a hundred people. Candidates are expected to be comfortable in the core areas of financial reporting, budget management, spend tracking, strategic planning, goal setting, process improvement, systems and technology enhancements, and professional support and development. The successful candidate must also be detail-oriented, willing to be a hands-on contributor, and skilled at managing teams, building strong cross-functional relationships, providing strategic direction, generating and delivering dynamic reports, implementing data-driven strategies to unearth key trends, and managing projects. 

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Lead a team of legal operations professionals focused on creating and driving processes and practices that improve the global Legal Team’s operational excellence.
  • Help organize and facilitate Twilio Legal's annual strategic planning and goal-setting processes. This includes managing, tracking, and reporting on Twilio Legal's OKRs and metrics.  
  • Design and manage the overall strategy for Legal Operations and implement annual goals, objectives, and KPIs to drive efficiency and effectiveness within Twilio Legal.
  • Partner with FP&A and Twilio’s Chief Legal Officer in managing the Legal Team’s operating budget and planning. 
  • Optimize processes for sourcing, selecting, contracting with, and managing external law firms and other service providers, ensuring fiscal responsibility and operational efficiency.
  • Drive optimal utilization of technology by Twilio’s Legal Team, including by selecting, implementing, and managing technology resources.
  • Work closely with other departments to ensure the Legal Team is aligned with the broader business goals and participating in cross-functional projects and initiatives.
  • Facilitate company-wide training on legal tools, processes, and procedures (e.g., new software, policy or process rollout).
  • Serve as a resource to Twilio’s Legal Leadership Team and their teams for special projects and cross-functional problem-solving, including coordinating and managing projects across a variety of stakeholders and partners.
  • Analyze complex data sets (quantitative and qualitative) to deliver actionable recommendations that drive business outcomes.
  • Provide reporting on workflows, metrics, OKRs, and other special projects to relevant stakeholders and partners on a regular basis.
  • Develop strategic or departmental plans, collaborating with multiple stakeholders and demonstrating strong business partnering skills.

Required:

  • 10+ years of work experience in operational, legal, or finance leadership roles.
  • Proven ability to lead and supervise legal professionals, driving high performance and achieving successful outcomes.
  • Highly collaborative style and the ability to forge strong cross-functional relationships. The ideal candidate will proactively build trust and credibility throughout the organization. 
  • Extensive experience with budget management and reporting.
  • Aptitude for problem-solving and strategic thinking, consistently delivering innovative solutions.
  • Ability to synthesize across multiple legal areas of expertise, understanding and balancing priorities.
  • Ability to develop and mentor staff on soft skills in the areas of communication, problem-solving, and teamwork, as well as technical skills like reporting and system research.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to a diverse array of audiences, including senior leadership.
  • Passion for transforming business operations through operational excellence and continuous process improvement. 
  • Experience working through ambiguity and a keen ability to adjust to evolving priorities in a fast-moving environment.
  • Knowledge of legal concepts and processes.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

Desired:

  • Law firm or in-house attorney or paralegal experience. 
  • Preferred experience with Strategy & Operations, Legal, or Finance functions. 
  • Experience working at a high growth technology company.
  • Deep experience with Legal workflow software and tools such as enterprise legal management software.
  • Expert user of Excel, PowerPoint, and G-Suite applications. 

Location

This role will be remote, and based in the USA.

Travel

The estimated pay ranges for this role are as follows:

  • Based in Colorado: $164,480 - $205,600.
  • Based in New York, Washington State, or California (outside of the San Francisco Bay area): $174,160 - $217,700.
  • Based in the San Francisco Bay area, California: $193,520 - $241,900.
  • This role may be eligible to participate in Twilio’s equity plan and corporate bonus plan.
  • All roles are eligible for the following benefits: health care insurance, 401(k) retirement account, paid sick time, paid personal time off, paid parental leave.

The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location within the state.
