We're looking for a Director of Engineering to head up the Billing & Payments team, a diverse and talented group of contributors working together to deliver a world-class billing platform and customer experience for MongoDB Atlas, our database-as-a-service (DBaaS) offering. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and grow an established team that is undergoing rapid expansion. In this leader-of-leaders position, you will shape the future of the Billing & Payments team, a business critical engineering team tasked with building and maintaining the mission critical systems that provide the primary inputs to the company in making decisions to pursue new products and business opportunities.

The ideal candidate will have...- At least eight years of experience in developing backend systems
- At least two years of experience leading multiple globally distributed teams
- A proven track record of successfully building, evolving and scaling complex distributed systems
- Superb written and verbal communication, time management skills, and a growth mindset
- The ability to make and evaluate realistic assessments of project complexity
- A passion for building technical and leadership skills in others
- A strong commitment to building and fostering a diverse and supportive culture that values customer obsession, continuous improvement, and high standards
- Experience with AWS (Experience with GCP and Azure is a plus)
- A deep sense of ownership, accountability, and pride
- Experience building and maintaining systems for metering, billing and payments is a plus
- Lead multiple globally distributed engineering teams by creating a positive culture, handling career growth and performance conversations, proactively setting vision and direction, and removing blockers
- Own internal platform services and customer-facing features, and operate them with excellence
- Partner with stakeholders across the business, including Engineering, Accounting, Finance, Sales, Data Science, and Internal Audit, with visibility all the way up to the executive level
- Provide feedback on the feasibility, functionality, technical design, and timeline of new features and system enhancements
- Serve as a resource for other engineering teams building features on top of the services you provide
- Hire, mentor and grow strong, high-performing software engineering teams
- Shape the architecture, development practices, and escalation policies as the teams and their suite of services grow
- Within three months, you will know the team’s roadmap, develop relationships with your team, peers, and stakeholders, and be familiar with our technology stack, processes and policies
- Within six months, you will establish a new team in Europe, take on full responsibility for project delivery, understand strengths and areas for growth for your team, and be in control of hiring
- Within the first year, you will manage and advise senior technical talent (Staff+), be a strong voice for engineering in prioritization discussions, set the vision and strategic direction, and create a culture of operational excellence, inclusion and growth

MongoDB’s base salary range for this role is posted below. Compensation at the time of offer is unique to each candidate and based on a variety of factors such as skill set, experience, qualifications, and work location. Salary is one part of MongoDB’s total compensation and benefits package. Other benefits for eligible employees may include: equity, participation in the employee stock purchase program, flexible paid time off, 20 weeks fully-paid gender-neutral parental leave, fertility and adoption assistance, 401(k) plan, mental health counseling, access to transgender-inclusive health insurance coverage, and health benefits offerings. Please note, the base salary range listed below and the benefits in this paragraph are only applicable to U.S.-based candidates.
MongoDB’s base salary range for this role in the U.S. is:$168,000—$330,000 USD
