We are seeking an experienced Director of Platform to lead our platform engineering function. This role will own AWS cloud infrastructure, security, application deployment, and developer productivity platforms—ensuring that Bankrate’s technology foundation is reliable, secure, and a delight for developers to use.
This is also an externally facing role, regularly collaborating with partners, affiliates, and financial institutions, including leading security reviews to ensure compliance and trust. The Director will be responsible for evaluating and implementing modern tooling and emerging technologies—from serverless architectures to AI-assisted development and no-code prototyping—to accelerate innovation and improve efficiency.
What You'll Do:
- Platform Leadership & Innovation
- Define and execute the vision for Bankrate’s platform with a focus on operational excellence, reliability, and developer productivity.
- Identify and adopt modern tools and architectures that improve efficiency, reliability, and time-to-market.
- Align platform capabilities with business priorities and external partner needs.
- AWS Cloud Infrastructure & SRE Practices
- Lead the evolution of our AWS environment for performance, resilience, and cost efficiency.
- Implement and monitor SLOs, SLIs, and error budgets to maintain reliability.
- Manage Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation) for consistent, secure deployments.
- Security & External Engagement
- Act as the primary technology contact for security assessments with affiliates, financial institutions, and other partners.
- Ensure compliance with SOC 2, GDPR, and other regulatory standards.
- Build trusted relationships with partner technology and security teams.
- Developer Experience & Internal Platform Products
- Own and enhance in-house developer tooling to provide visibility into security, deployments, repositories, and operational health.
- Oversee CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation for containerized and serverless applications.
- Improve local development environments, reduce build/deploy friction, and streamline onboarding.
- Enhance observability, monitoring, and incident response capabilities.
- Team & Vendor Management
- Build and mentor a high-performing platform and SRE team.
- Manage relationships with key vendors and technology providers.
What We're Looking For:
- 10+ years in technology infrastructure, platform engineering, or SRE leadership roles.
- Proven experience managingAWS-based infrastructure at scale.
- IaC expertise (Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Experience with containers (Docker, Kubernetes) and serverless architectures.
- Proficiency in a programming or scripting language (Python, JavaScript, Bash).
- Strong understanding of SRE principles and DevEx improvement practices.
- Track record of developing and managing internal platform tools for developers.
- Familiarity with modern CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, CircleCI).
- Demonstrated ability to lead external security reviews and navigate compliance requirements.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience in high-traffic consumer web or SaaS environments preferred.

Compensation:
- USA Compensation Range: $200,000- 285,000 + potential equity *Note actual compensation is based on geographic location, qualifications, and experience.
