We’re looking for a Director of Social Media to build out a best-in-class social center of excellence at Pinterest and lead our global social team. The ideal candidate is a proven leader in the social space, having overseen social strategy, content strategy, content creation, community management, crisis response, and more on behalf of a major brand(s), whether in-house or agency side, and who has a strong track record of building and leading high-performing teams. In this role, you will lead the charge in elevating and expanding Pinterest’s social presence to reflect our position as one of the world’s most creative and loved brands. 

What you’ll do:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive global social media strategy aligned with Pinterest’s brand identity and objectives.
  • Identify emerging social media trends and platforms to keep Pinterest at the forefront of digital innovation.
  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a talented team of social media professionals.
  • Cultivate a collaborative and innovative team culture that encourages creativity and drives results.
  • Engage the best creative partners for our needs and oversee the creation of engaging, shareable, and on-brand content, including visuals, videos, and written content.
  • Ensure content is tailored to resonate with different social media platforms and specific audiences.
  • Further build our community management discipline to ensure we are actively engaging with users, responding to comments, messages, and feedback.
  • Ensure best-in-class social tooling to monitor conversations and sentiment to help us maintain our positive brand image.
  • Utilize data analytics tools to measure the impact of social media campaigns and derive actionable insights.
  • Provide regular performance reports and recommendations to key stakeholders.
  • Collaborate closely with marketing, PR, policy teams, and other stakeholders to ensure consistent messaging and integrated campaigns.
  • Leverage social media for product launches and promotional activities.
  • Develop and implement crisis management protocols to handle social media issues and emergencies effectively.

What we’re looking for:

We’re looking for a strategic thinker with a passion for social media, a creative mindset, and a history of building successful social media teams, strategies and campaigns. 

  • You have extensive experience (12+ years) in senior social media roles, ideally working for, or with, large global brands. Experience in B2C and B2B a plus.
  • You have a proven track record of developing and executing successful social media strategies  that demonstrate measurable business impact, as well as a record of significantly growing a brand’s following and engagement across channels. 
  • You have strong leadership and team management skills, with 6+ years of management experience.
  • You possess in-depth knowledge of social media platforms, trends, and best practices.
  • You are proficient in data analysis and data-driven decision-making.
  • You have exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • You have experience dealing with crisis management, mobilizing teams to respond to challenging corporate situations through social
  • You love Pinterest and the inspiration and manifestation it enables.
  • You have a finger on the pulse of culture, with attention paid to what’s happening in entertainment, fashion, beauty, design, food and more. 
  • You put a high bar on creative excellence - and understand how definitions of excellence need to change on a channel-by-channel basis. 

Our PinFlex future of work philosophy requires this role to visit a Pinterest office for collaboration approximately 1x per quarter. For employees not located within a commutable distance from this in-office touchpoint, Pinterest will cover T&E. Learn more about PinFlex here.
