Lyft is looking for an experienced Public Policy Director to join our fast-growing and fast-paced team! Based in Washington, D.C. this position will be a key player in developing and implementing Lyft’s government relations and public policy strategies to advance the company’s long term business interests. In tandem with their colleagues across the policy team and cross-functionally throughout the company, the Public Policy Director will manage a portfolio of key issue areas throughout the US. This position will require some travel commitments and reports directly to the Chief Policy Officer.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead Regional Public Policy team, including a team of Policy Managers spanning the key markets in the US; provide leadership to the entire Public Policy team alongside two other Regional Public Policy Leads. 
  • Represent Lyft to all elected officials and government agencies and regulatory bodies, addressing issues including transportation planning, platform operations, sustainability and EV investment, policies impacting Drivers on the Lyft platform, and other issues; assist in drafting and negotiating language for legislation.
  • Monitor ongoing regulatory, legislative and compliance efforts to ensure Lyft business efforts continue to stay ahead of market developments.
  • Represent Lyft in relevant policy and business coalitions to advance advocacy efforts within the region and nationally. 
  • Grow and maintain diverse coalitions in support of policy issues and business priorities. 
  • Develop and implement strategies to advocate for policies related to Lyft’s business priorities; build support for such strategies with other regional Policy teams, cross-functional internal teams, coalition partners and other stakeholders.
Experience:
  • 9+ years of political, policy, legislative, campaign, and/or other related lobbying experience
  • Strong management skills including experience managing remote teams 
  • Law, public policy, business, or other relevant advanced degree preferred
  • Previous experience with the tech industry considered
  • Natural connector and relationship builder
  • A keen understanding of regional political landscape at the state and city level
  • The ability to navigate the political landscape and think creatively
  • Proven entrepreneurial and scrappy spirit
  • Exceptional strategic and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, demanding environment
  • Self-starter; intrinsically motivated
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and presentation)

This role will be in-office on a hybrid schedule — Team Members will be expected to work in the D.C. office 3 days per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Additionally, hybrid roles have the flexibility to work from anywhere for up to 4 weeks per year.

The expected range of base pay for this position in the Washington, D.C. area is $219,375- $243,750. Salary ranges are dependent on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience and geographic location. Range is not inclusive of potential equity offering, bonus or benefits.
