Safety at Chewy is paramount. Our Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) mission focuses on providing tools, resources, and environments that support safe, efficient, healthy behaviors and proactively encourages team members to manage their health and well-being. To assist with delivering upon our mission, Chewy is seeking an experienced and passionate EHS Manager to serve as a designated representative for our Fulfillment Center (FC). In this position, the EHS Manager will serve as the designated first aid provider in the FC, coordinating and implementing the Chewy EHS Program. The EHS Manager will partner with the site’s leadership team to execute company EHS policies and ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations. This individual will lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce conditional and ergonomic risk in our processes to ensure a safe and healthy working environment for our team members. The EHS Manager must demonstrate the ability to build trust and confidence with leadership and influence change by providing comprehensive risk assessments and EHS data analysis. The EHS Manager will lead and develop a team of EHS professionals. This individual must create and execute leadership development plans for their team members. They must communicate team expectations, provide frequent feedback, and ensure the team is completing the core competencies of a Chewy EHS professional.

What you'll do:

  • Demonstratable passion for EHS.
  • Serve as the designated site EHS representative, coordinating and implementing all areas of the Chewy EHS Program as directed by the EHS Associate Director.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to ensure compliance with all applicable Chewy EHS policies.
  • Measure output performance against published requirements in EHS policies. Identify a plan for each site to implement and correct all identified deficiencies.
  • Deliver on-time and quality projects to operations.
  • Analyze EHS metrics and review weekly and monthly incidents to discover trends and rationalize the allocation of appropriate resources to areas where the safety risk is highest.
  • Perform frequent site safety audits to identify all non-compliant equipment and/or processes at the site. Implement solutions to eliminate exposure to these risks and prevent injury at other FCs.
  • Audit recordkeeping practices in alignment with EHS standards and government regulations. Audit the workplace organization and team member behaviors to ensure that training, auditing, and scoring methods are accurate and consistent.
  • Ensure site leadership and team members are trained and knowledgeable of their responsibilities under each policy.
  • Audit the quality, delivery (including qualifications of the trainer), and effectiveness of all required safety training.
  • Must be flexible regarding shifts.
  • Ability to travel up to 0- 25% of the time.

 

What you'll need:

  • 5+ years of growing responsibilities in EHS, safety and/or environmental programs.
  • Bachelor's degree, or 3+ years of Chewy EHS experience.
  • Fulfillment center, distribution center, or manufacturing EHS experience with a mix of exempt and non-exempt team members at a site of at least 250 people.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations specifically 29 CFR 1910.
  • Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment.
  • Experience in a fast-paced, dynamic organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including comfort in interfacing with site leaders.
  • Ability to develop and implement department goals and strategies.
  • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem-solving ability.
  • Strong people leader with 3-5 years of experience developing a diverse and dispersed team of health and safety professionals required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, being able to communicate with internal stakeholders and executive leadership.
  • Highly collaborative team player who can build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including third-party vendors.
  • Experience interacting and driving partnerships with emergency agencies, regulatory authorities, and government officials at multiple levels required.
  • Capable of delivering high-quality work and data-driven initiatives on time with the ability to manage multiple projects or programs simultaneously.
  • Ability to be flexible, work through ambiguity, and succeed in a fast-paced environment while having the foresight to build mechanisms and develop strategies.
  • Willing to learn new skills and implement new technologies across Chewy.
  • Experience with Gensuite, Avetta, Smartsheet, Safety Management Systems, Microsoft Office, or other similar workspace software.

Bonus:

  • Master’s degree in EHS, Safety Management, Environmental Sciences or related field.
  • •Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent.
