Current banking systems don't let us send, spend or receive money across borders easily. Or quickly. Or cheaply. 

So, we’re building a new one and we’re looking for a talented Engineering Lead to join the mission.

Wise has already pioneered new ways for people to transfer money across borders and currencies. Our customers can also manage their hard-earned money with the world’s first platform to offer true multi-currency banking. 

The team you’ll be working with: Design System 

Wise.com and the Wise iOS and Android apps are the shop-window of Wise. With ever-growing demands to continue to expand on, scale up and build out different parts of our website and apps, it has been essential to build a dedicated  design system. The Design System team builds and designs custom components used by all our products and landing pages.

The team makes sure that the components are scalable to our evolving needs and support future growth. The design system as a whole is and aims to be reused across teams and products to promote efficiency, maintain consistency, and reduce the effort required for design and development tasks. Our design system evolves in an iterative fashion, by establishing a feedback loop and continuous improvement process to gather input from users, track performance, and refine the design system over time.

Your work would involve close partnership with technical as well as non-technical audiences: Product Designers, Content Designers, Brand/Creative Designers, Web, iOS, and Android Engineers, Design Tooling Specialists, and Design Program Management.

As an Engineering Lead, you will:

• Collaborate with product, design, and other teams across the company to deliver impactful outcomes as a team,
• Be responsible for the overall health and productivity of the engineers within your team - and help them grow to be their best selves,
• Own the availability and scalability of our logged-out product pages, and how we build them going forward,
• Provide feedback on technical design decisions and approach, and help the team make data-driven decisions,
• Have an overview of what’s happening within the broader Onboarding space, and thinking about engineering as a whole, 
• Understand the teams’ systems deeply enough to be hands on, when needed.

Is that you?

• Experience leading, coaching and mentoring driven and high performing teams
• A strong product mindset and passion for user experience - you prioritize work with customers in mind and make data-driven decisions to fix customer pain points
• Great communication skills and the ability to articulate complex, technical concepts to non-technical audiences 
• Experience working with React based frontend applications, Javascript / Typescript 
• Experience building and designing scalable and performant systems 
• Ability to break down complex projects into incremental milestones that deliver customer value

…but don’t worry we don’t expect you to know everything!

Nice to have bonuses:

• Experience with Content Management Systems, and concepts such as headless CMS, 
• Experience working with / creating / extending design systems,
• Experience with Java, Spring Boot backend technologies, and event-driven microservices architectures

We offer a salary range of 95,000-130,000GBP annual + an RSU package vesting over a period of 4 years.
