So, we’re building a new one and we’re looking for a talented Engineering Lead to join the mission.
Wise has already pioneered new ways for people to transfer money across borders and currencies. Our customers can also manage their hard-earned money with the world’s first platform to offer true multi-currency banking.
The team you’ll be working with: Screening team Screening team's goal is making sure that known bad actors are not using Wise with minimal impact on good customers. We do fuzzy matching on customer and transaction data against lists of sanctioned individuals and organisations, politically exposed persons, and adverse media. We also provide tooling for operational agents and work on automating manual work. We are a mature team of engineers, data analysts, and product people based mostly in Tallinn and London. Our operational team is working all over the world: from Kuala Lumpur to Tampa. Our vision is globally compliant screening program that offers frictionless experience for good actor customers.As an engineering lead, you will be responsible for the quality of your team’s technical solutions, including code quality, architecture applicability, performance, reliability and adherence to company-wide engineering standards.
As a people manager, you will be responsible for your team's productivity, goal setting, career path identification, mentoring and supporting people in your team.
Our main challenges are:- staying on top of changing regulatory requirements globally
- performing necessary screening checks without compromising instant speed
- reducing screening impact on customer experience with smarter screening and automation
- ensuring screening engine scalability and security as Wise grows.
- Experience working with Java, Spring framework, asynchronous message queues and have worked with microservices architecture – this is essential
- Experience leading, coaching and mentoring high performing teams, building development plans and setting personal goals for engineers in your teams
- Comfortable working on big challenges and taking full ownership of the customer journey
- Experience building and designing scalable and performing systems
- Comfortable with SQL databases, optimisation and transaction
- A passion for international finance, foreign exchange and payment systems
- You’ll have found your place in our mission by understanding how to drive engineering solutions and suggesting future challenges
- You’ll understand our customers and the impact our product makes in their lives

- Starting salary: 66,000-94,000EUR + RSU
