The Education team at Red Ventures is looking for a highly technical, results-oriented, and innovative Engineering Manager to lead an engineering team responsible for data and application development. We are looking for a collaborative leader who will understand our people, business, technology, and customer needs. 

This individual will help drive our culture of diversity, empowerment, ownership, and accountability and develop our team technically and professionally. They will also identify and successfully implement improvements in our engineering processes, tools, pipelines, and architecture to enable us to deliver on our key initiatives.

What You'll Do:

  • Manage a team of software and data engineers as the Infrastructure Manager
  • Collaborate with scrum masters, product owners, and leadership to build world-class solutions powering one of the largest online marketplaces for adult learners
  • Position the engineering team for success through training, mentorship, and leadership
  • Work closely with the engineers to improve process and code quality
  • Liaise with the director and other senior leadership to establish and maintain priorities in a dynamic environment
  • Manage ceremonies and sprints, manage the ticket workflow in Jira, and show strong communication skills with stakeholders and technical partners.
  • Demonstrate project and roadmap planning skills.
  • Assist with defining standards and requirements for tech tooling/workflows.
  • Understanding and leadership of SRE and Devops best practices and how to implement them.

What We're Looking For:

Infrastructure: 

  • Very good understanding of the container lifecycle, including building, managing, and maintaining base images.
    • Best practices around patching containers and dependencies.
    • Best practices around security container pipelines and container runtimes, specifically ECS.
  • Experience with networking, VPN connections vs transit gateway vs direct connect vs private link.
  • Implement best practices around least privilege configurations for security groups.
  • AWS IAM best practices, specifically in relation to federated users and least privilege machine and account roles.
  • MySQL and PostgreSQL usage, security, and management.
  • Strong understanding of what stable multi-az applications need to look like and how they are configured.
  • Manage costs across tech tools, but specifically in AWS. Demonstrate areas for improvement and make recommendations on how to improve.

Software Development Experience: 

  • Strong knowledge of Javascript and/or Typescript.
  • Some experience with full stack development. Does not need to be an expert in both front and backend, however, needs to be able to understand concepts, participate in planning, and know when to pull in other resources when the team needs help.
  • Hands-on experience with implementing TDD, Integration testing, E2E testing, and regression testing.
  • New Relic experience is a strong plus.

Data Experience: 

  • Understanding of how eventing works, how data pipelines work, and what type of support these ecosystems need.
  • Experience with DataBricks is a big plus.
  • Experience reading, writing, and debugging SQL queries. 

Security Experience: 

  • Understanding of basic security/privacy standards (SOC, ISO, NIST, CIS) and ability to show that they can read, understand, and implement required policies and procedures across our infrastructure and tooling.
  • Understanding of least privilege access and ability to implement it in the things we are building as well as the tools the team supports (Github, DataBricks, AWS, Jira, Confluence, Microsoft Sharepoint).
  • Critical vs High vs other vulnerability types in hosts, containers, code, and infrastructure and best practices around prioritizing, isolating, and remediating these issues.

Compensation

  • National Compensation Range: $130,000 - 190,000* *Note actual salary is based on geographic location, qualifications, and experience.
