We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the technical delivery of SumUp’s stablecoin initiative - from architectural foundations and hiring a high-performing team to building a reliable, scalable, and secure product. You’ll be both a hands-on contributor (writing and reviewing code) and a leader who drives engineering excellence, supports team members to be impactful, and ensures alignment with SumUp’s product go-to-market strategy.

This is a newly created role, designed to bring internal technical leadership to a high-priority project. It’s fast-moving, complex, and full of potential - perfect for someone who thrives in ambiguous, high-impact environments.

• Provide engineering leadership and hands-on software development for the SumUp Stablecoin (SURO) initiative.
• Lead architectural discovery and guide system design for MVP and beyond.
• Hire, onboard, and develop a high-performing engineering team.
• Collaborate closely with the Product Manager, Legal, Regulatory, Risk, Compliance, Banking, and other internal stakeholders to ensure smooth delivery.
• Maintain high standards for reliability, security, scalability, and maintainability.
• Drive a culture of ownership, technical excellence, and iterative delivery.
• Oversee CI/CD, observability, and performance from day one.
• Communicate progress, risks, and needs clearly to executive sponsors and cross-functional partners.

What we’re looking for:

• Proven experience leading software engineering teams, ideally in payments or other domains with high-reliability and scalability requirements.
• Strong technical background in backend/platform engineering.
• Track record of delivering scalable, maintainable, and reliable software.
• Experience with people management, talent development, and hiring.
• Ability to drive cross-team initiatives and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Results-focused mindset with strong prioritization and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with digital assets, blockchain infrastructure, or stablecoins.
• Familiarity with regulatory or compliance frameworks in financial services.
• Exposure to vendor management or technical due diligence processes.
