The role

As an Engineering Manager at GoCardless, you’ll be helping us build creative and fulfilled product engineering teams. You will lead talented and creative engineers who build products and systems they are proud of. We endeavour to build simple, reliable systems and we believe in using the best technologies for each task. You’ll be joining our Connectivity team that primarily uses technologies such as Python, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Across GoCardless, our other technologies include: Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, Golang, React, TypeScript, Kubernetes, Elasticsearch, Prometheus, BigQuery.

  • First and foremost, coding! - our Engineering Managers still contribute to the codebase on a daily basis
  • Being a Subject Matter Expert - for the area you manage, guiding engineers through problems and contributing to the product and technical roadmap
  • Hiring and growing engineers - into being the best engineers they can be, by maintaining a supportive and engaging team culture of growth
  • Insisting on high standards of technical design and implementation - and ensure your systems are operationally excellent
  • Delivering project work - while managing the expectations of your stakeholders, planning and prioritising impactful technical investment initiatives for your teams

What excites us  

  • Professional experience in coding - specifically with Python, having a commitment to building reliable, well-tested back end systems
  • Infrastructure provisioning and management - you manage and automate the provisioning and lifecycle management of an infrastructure across various cloud providers and on-premises environments
  • Testing and code reviews - you are enthusiastic about working in a strong testing culture to help us in building a reliable and scalable network for the world!
  • Mentorship - you are excited about supporting and growing a group of engineers, helping them become the best engineers they can be
  • Effective communication - mainly technical topics to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Collaboration - with Product Managers and other functions to deliver successful software products across GoCardless

Salary: 6,700 - 8,100 eur/gross
