Position Overview: As the Manager of Platform Engineering, you will lead a team of engineers responsible for enabling and optimizing the development experience at SingleStore. You will drive technical decisions around building scalable, distributed systems that empower engineers to build, test, and monitor applications in a multi-cloud environment. In this role, you will ensure the efficiency, throughput, and overall health of the developer experience from commitment to production. Your team will be responsible for creating innovative solutions to enhance engineering productivity, designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines, and managing cloud infrastructure using modern tools such as Kubernetes, GitOps, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
Your leadership will foster a culture of continuous learning, shared responsibility, and collaborative problem-solving while ensuring the team’s success through technical mentorship, career development, and process improvements. Role and Responsibilities:
- Lead the Platform Engineering team, which is responsible for developer enablement and infrastructure management.
- Build observable, microservice-oriented applications to streamline development, testing, and monitoring processes across multi-cloud environments.
- Design and implement innovative technical solutions to improve engineering productivity, including optimizing CI/CD throughput and workload execution runtimes.
- Manage the entire development lifecycle, from code commit to production monitoring, ensuring stability and performance.
- Collaborate with key product owners, stakeholders, and project managers to schedule, plan, and deliver infrastructure improvements and new initiatives.
- Build and optimize Kubernetes clusters and containerized ecosystems using industry best practices.
- Ensure scalable, maintainable, and automated solutions for infrastructure monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization.
- Establish and manage an on-call rotation for critical internal systems to support development productivity.
- Promote knowledge-sharing and mentorship within the team, helping engineers overcome technical challenges and develop their expertise.
- Design and maintain automated delivery pipelines for systems, applications, and infrastructure.
- Ensure best practices around software engineering processes, including code reviews, unit testing, and continuous integration.
Required Skills and Experience:
- 5+ years of experience with one or more general-purpose programming languages, including but not limited to Python, C/C++, JavaScript, or Go.
- Proven experience in managing infrastructure with Kubernetes, containers, and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
- Familiarity with GitOps, IaC tools (e.g., Terraform), and CI/CD toolchains (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab, CircleCI, Jenkins).
- Deep understanding of distributed systems, multi-tenant services, cloud-native applications, and Unix/Linux environments.
- Experience with service-oriented architecture, microservices, and event-driven architecture.
- Knowledge of modern monitoring systems (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana) and observability best practices.
- Strong programming skills in JavaScript, Go, Python, or other object-oriented languages.
- Ability to lead and mentor engineers while fostering a positive, collaborative team culture.
- Strong passion for improving developer productivity and enhancing engineering processes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent working experience).
- Previous experience as a technical leader, responsible for large-scale infrastructure projects in cloud environments.
- Experience in managing and optimizing Kubernetes clusters from scratch using best practices.
- Strong understanding of product security and data protection principles.
