As the Engineering Manager for the Risk Tech - Claims team at Lyft, you will oversee the technical development and architecture of the systems that support our Claims experience. Your role involves leading a team of engineers to build and refine the technology that enables drivers to report accidents, update internal records efficiently, and interface seamlessly with external insurance partners to expedite the process of getting drivers back on the road. Given that insurance represents Lyft's largest variable cost, your focus will be on developing cost-effective and scalable solutions that contribute positively to the company's overall profit and loss (P&L). You will work closely with Product Management to understand the product vision and translate this into technical strategies and implementations. Additionally, as Lyft collaborates with leading insurance carriers and technology providers, you will engage in strategic technical discussions to shape the long-term infrastructure of our Insurance program, ensuring it aligns with industry standards and advancements.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of talented engineers who like to ship code and tackle hard engineering problems
  • Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of your team members. Help develop their careers and assign them to projects tailored to their skill levels, personalities, work styles, and professional goals
  • Build teams that are collaborative, inclusive, and respectful of each other
  • Provide continuous feedback, address performance, and recognize the individual strengths and contributions of your team members
  • Create plans for prioritizing technical and resourcing challenges in your organization
  • Maintain a balance between building sustainable, high-impact projects and shipping things quickly
  • Instill a spirit of continuous improvement in the team’s code, architecture, and processes
  • Work closely with the Lyft recruiting team to hire high potential candidates from diverse backgrounds
  • Work with your engineers and/or product managers to maintain a prioritized backlog and create short term and long-term goals
  • Own your team’s deliverables and ensure we continue to ship scalable, highly-available products that delight our passengers and drivers
  • Help your team build relationships across functions with Support, Marketing, Ops, BizDev, or other teams to ensure Lyft’s continuing success
Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 3+ years of experience managing engineering teams
  • Experience providing active mentorship and career guidance
  • Experience architecting, building, and scaling distributed systems
  • Experience launching consumer facing products and iterating through data-driven experimentation
  • Strong technical foundation in mobile or server engineering

This role will be in-office on a hybrid schedule — Team Members will be expected to work in the office 3 days per week on Mondays, Wednesday and Thursdays. Additionally, hybrid roles have the flexibility to work from anywhere for up to 4 weeks per year.

The expected range of pay for this position in the Seattle Area is $162,000 - $180,000. Salary ranges are dependent on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience and geographic location. Range is not inclusive of potential equity offering, bonus or benefits.
