Field Application Engineer
The Field Application Engineer (FAE) will with work closely with Business Development, Product, Engineering, and Manufacturing to provide pre- and post-sales technical customer support. An FAE at Luminar must have excellent presentation and communication skills and be capable of mastering the operation and expert use of the Luminar lidar sensor and corresponding software tools. This position requires regular customer interaction via email, virtual meetings, and face-to-face customer visits across the world.
Responsibilities- Provide/manage expert product demonstrations (HW & SW)
- Pre-sales technical knowledge support for Business Development Managers in customermeetings
- Facilitate customer understanding of technical specifications of all products, HW & SW
- On-boarding and ongoing customer training (HW & SW)
- Technical customer support and limited project management
- Garner market insights from customer visits, present to organization
- Support RFI and RFQ responses
- Act as technical liaison between BD and rest of organization
- Provide internal technical training
- Competitive and Market Expertise
- Install and configure sensors to perform troubleshooting and resolve issues.
- Provide technical support to customers to resolve integration issues
- B.S. in relevant field (Computer Science, Physics, EE, etc)
- Ability and willingness to routinel present highly technical information to an expert audience
- Familiarity with computer languages and data processing (e.g. C++, Python, Matlab)
- Understanding of AV technologies including sensors, the AV stack, and perception
- Experience developing materials for customers and conducting training
- Advanced knowledge of Linux and Windows
- Experience in automotive space
- Experience with lidar
- Ability to travel worldwide
- M.S. in relevant field
- Extensive experience in software and/or hardware (pre/post sales) technical support specific to Luminar lidar and software products

At Luminar, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays a base between $127,000 and $178,000 per year. Within this range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. You will also be eligible to receive other benefits including: equity in the form of restricted stock unit awards, comprehensive medical and dental coverage, 401k plan, life and disability benefits, flexible time off, paid parental leave, and tuition reimbursement for formal education related to advancing your career at Luminar. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire and schedule type.
