Field CISO, Financial Services

We are seeking a strategic and experienced Field CISO to join our Pre-Sales team here at Fastly. This role is a senior, customer-facing position designed for a former CISO or senior security executive with deep expertise in the unique challenges with Highly Regulated Industries (primarily Financial and Healthcare).  The Field CISO will act as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to our largest accounts in these verticals, including their CISOs, CTOs, CROs, CEOs, and boards of directors. You will leverage your experience to help clients align their security programs with business objectives, navigate complex regulatory requirements, and operationalize our security solutions effectively within their environments.  This is a consultative role focused on building trust and providing executive-level guidance. Key Responsibilities
  • Executive Advisory and Strategic Partnership:
    • Serve as a primary executive point of contact and trusted advisor for our major enterprise  customers.
    • Advise customer CISOs and other C-level executives on building out their strategic security direction, understanding global trends, and setting priorities
    • Provide expert guidance on balancing the risks and rewards of digital transformation, particularly cloud adoptions
    • Translate complex cybersecurity risks into business terms that C-suite executives and boards can understand and act upon.
  • Financial Services Industry Expertise:
    • Help customers navigate the expanding and complex regulatory landscape specific to financial services, including SEC cyber risk disclosure rules, NIS2, and responsible AI governance.
    • Guide clients in embedding security and compliance as strategic priorities to build trust with customers and governments.
    • Address industry-specific threats such as sophisticated phishing, ransomware, state-sponsored attacks, and supply chain vulnerabilities.
    • Assist clients in developing operational resilience plans with a strong emphasis on cyber-resilience, a top priority for regulators in the financial sector.
  • Product Partnership and Customer Advocacy:
    • Help customers securely operationalize the use of our products within their complex, hybrid cloud environments.
    • Translate the real needs of customer CISOs into a language that our internal sales and product teams can understand, ensuring our solutions meet client requirements.
    • Bring critical "voice of the customer" feedback back to our product strategy, operations, and partnership teams to inform future development.
  • Thought Leadership and Market Presence:
    • Present on security strategy and industry trends at conferences, webinars, and executive briefings.
    • Foster a security-first culture, both internally and within customer organizations.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Extensive experience as an operational CISO, or a senior security strategist within the financial services industry.
  • Demonstrated experience interacting at the C-level, either as an internal business partner or as an external vendor/consultant.
  • Deep understanding of the security, risk, and compliance challenges facing modern financial institutions, including regulatory requirements (e.g., SEC, NIS2) and industry standards.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement comprehensive information security strategies that align with business goals.
Skills and Competencies
  • Strategic Vision: Ability to think strategically about security in the context of business objectives, risk management, and resilience. Must operate with an "assumed breach" mindset.
  • Communication and Influence: Master communicator with the ability to explain complex security concepts to executive and board-level audiences. Strong collaboration and influencing skills are essential.
  • Technical Acumen: While this is not a hands-on technical role, a strong technical background is necessary to maintain credibility and effectively advise customers on architectural changes and solution implementation. Experience with cloud security, Zero Trust, and modern application security is highly desirable.
  • Independence and Credibility: A commitment to acting as a trusted, consultative partner, even if it means recommending solutions outside of our own product suite to best serve the customer's needs.
Who You Are
  • A former CISO who is looking to transition from a demanding operational role into a consultative one without diminishing their career standing.
  • Possesses the credibility that comes from having managed security budgets, personnel, and real-world incidents.
  • Views this role as an opportunity to share expertise broadly and have a significant impact across multiple leading financial organizations
