Firmware Engineering Manager, Systems Engineering
We’re in an unbelievably exciting area of tech and are fundamentally reshaping the data storage industry. Here, you lead with innovative thinking, grow along with us, and join the smartest team in the industry.
This type of work—work that changes the world—is what the tech industry was founded on. So, if you're ready to seize the endless opportunities and leave your mark, come join us.
THE ROLE
Lead the mission-critical Direct Flash Module (DFM) Firmware Team to design and innovate core storage technology for our high-performance FlashArray products. You'll drive the product roadmap for advanced embedded firmware, translating business vision into engineering strategy and technical execution. This role is your opportunity to manage and grow a world-class team while collaborating closely with hardware, NAND media, and Purity software teams to push the boundaries of enterprise storage.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
-
Define and Champion the Firmware Roadmap: Own the long-term product and feature strategy for DFM firmware, translating business requirements and market opportunities into a clear, actionable engineering plan that drives product differentiation.
-
Drive Agile Execution and Delivery: Lead the team's sprint cycles, manage the development backlog, and prioritize work to ensure efficient, iterative development and successful, on-schedule delivery of features that impact millions in revenue.
-
Elevate Team Performance and Process: Mentor, manage, and coach a high-performing team of firmware engineers, providing continuous feedback and fostering professional growth while actively improving engineering development and productivity processes.
-
Ensure Product Excellence and Reliability: Oversee firmware quality, integration, and validation across the entire data path, NAND media management, and low-level hardware interfaces, ensuring the release of enterprise-grade, highly available storage components.
-
Coordinate Cross-Functional Success: Act as the primary technical interface, collaborating with Purity software, hardware design, and NAND qualification teams to align development efforts, resolve integration challenges, and accelerate the adoption of new NAND technologies like QLC.
- We are primarily an in-office environment and therefore, you will be expected to work from the Santa Clara, CA office in compliance with Pure’s policies, unless you are on PTO, or work travel, or other approved leave.
WHAT YOU BRING
-
Leadership in Embedded Systems: Proven experience leading technical teams in embedded systems, specifically in the design and development of firmware for high-performance hardware or storage devices.
-
Deep Technical Expertise: Extensive hands-on experience and profound knowledge of embedded firmware development, low-level hardware-software interfaces, and proficiency in C/C++ programming.
-
Agile Management Mastery: Demonstrated ability to apply Agile methodologies to manage project schedules, deliverables, and dependencies throughout the entire product development lifecycle from concept to market release.
-
Strategic Problem-Solving: Exceptional analytical and technical problem-solving skills, with a track record of diagnosing and resolving complex issues in firmware/hardware integration and optimizing system performance.
-
Cross-Functional Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively articulate complex technical strategies, negotiate priorities, and collaborate seamlessly with cross-functional engineering and program management teams.
