Foundry Technician (Raptor)

FOUNDRY TECHNICIAN (RAPTOR)
We are seeking an individual who is motivated, adaptable, inquisitive, has a high level of attention to detail, and is eager to learn new things. The Foundry Technician will be responsible for learning the details of our processes as they evolve and using that understanding to effectively and safely operate equipment and propose improvements that help SpaceX make world-changing launch vehicles and spacecraft. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operate SLA 3D printers and related equipment and systems; perform hand finishing and assembly for printed components
- Operate and maintain robotic systems for shell manufacturing including part loading, in-process inspection, and slurry sampling
- Perform operation of burnout furnaces and cutting and placement of insulation on molds
- Assist pour operations team with mold transfer processes using robotic equipment, forklifts, and other assisted lift methods
- Operate large industrial equipment including abrasive saws, waterjet, and grit blasting machinery in support of de-shelling casting mold operations
- Read and interpret work order instructions indicating areas requiring blending and material removal using carbides or other hand tools to meet critical dimensional tolerances
- Perform part transfers and work documentation using heat treat ovens
- Take initiative in problem solving, cost reductions, and process improvement
- Work with design engineers and tooling engineers to take products from design to production
- Work with quality engineers to reduce defects and maintain high yield
- Provide hands-on support as needed to other foundry areas
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate
- 1+ years of hands-on experience with one or more of the following processes: 3D printing, gluing/assembling plastic parts, heavy industrial or high-volume production, surface prep, inspecting parts, operator maintenance (PM’s) of equipment, metal fabrication, maintaining process fluids/chemicals, CNC equipment setups, designing/modifying fixtures, operating lab or manufacturing equipment, documenting improvements
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- 1+ years of hands-on experience with foundry processes and investment casting or large industrial equipment
- 2+ years of professional experience in a manufacturing or production environment
- Demonstrated professional track record of creative problem solving, cost reductions, and process improvement
- History of starting up new work centers, documenting info to establish solid processes, and new product introduction from design to production
- Experience with 3D printers – operation and/or programming
- Familiarity with HMI, PLC, or robot programming
- Excellent hand work (sanding, cutting, assembly, etc.)
- Comfortable with a mix of repetitive and new work processes
- Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization
- Excellent attention to detail
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be available for 1st shift (5:00 AM - 3:30 PM)
- Must be able to work overtime and weekends as needed
- Must be able to lift and carry 25 lbs
- Must be able to climb ladders and stairs and work in small restricted areas
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay range: Technician/Level 1: $22.00 - $27.00/hour Technician/Level 2: $25.00 - $32.50/hour Technician/Level 3: $30.00 - $38.00/hour
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
