Candidates for this position should be based in Boston, MA and will be expected to comply with their team’s hybrid work schedule requirements.

Who We Are:

Wayfair is making fast progress in our quest to be the world’s number one destination for all things home. We believe that everyone should live in a home they love. We use cutting edge technology to make it possible for our 24 million customers to access more than 33 million products from 23,000 global suppliers.

The Storefront team owns the design and implementation of the customer-facing website. We partner with Product, Experience Design, Analytics and business leaders across Wayfair to build technology that solves important customer problems in elegant, scalable, and measurable ways.

We are looking for visionary engineers interested in working with industry leading technology to join our Homebase Design System Platform team, where you will have the opportunity to build a world class, modular, modern, and scalable design system. The Design System engineering team creates the framework, infrastructure, and components necessary to achieve the vision of our Product and Experience Design teams. Our highly flexible yet scalable component framework automatically builds in quality control, visual consistency, accessibility, experimentation, and analytics, enabling teams to move fast without being bogged down with unnecessary boilerplate or complexity.

What You’ll Do:

  • Build rich, responsive and fast frontend experiences seen and used by millions of customers everyday
  • Write thoughtful, scalable, reusable, well tested and performant frontend code
  • Use the latest features of industry leading technologies such as React Server Components, Next.js, vanilla-extract, Apollo Client with GQL Federation, Storybook, Figma, Garden, and more
  • Partner with Design Leads and Product Managers to turn wireframes and mockups into responsive, consistent UIs that leverage our central React Pattern Library
  • Work and collaborate with backend services, GraphQL Platform, App, Content Management, and many other teams to employ industry best practices with regard to web standards, component architecture, domain modeling, accessibility, cross-device design, and page performance
  • Implement action plans and coding patterns that influence the broader frontend platform at Wayfair
  • Be part of the team that is leading the market in delivering the most delightful customer online shopping experience for home furnishings in a quickly changing landscape

We Are A Match Because You Have:

  • Experience coding JavaScript, CSS, and HTML from scratch as well as a familiarity with modern client-side frameworks (React, Ember, Angular, Vue, Styled Components, SASS, etc)
  • An understanding of JavaScript state management libraries, such as Redux, MobX, or Apollo
  • Familiarity with GraphQL, best practices around its use, and what makes it different from RESTful architectures. Experience with schema design and/or federation is highly desired but not required
  • Knowledge of responsive design principles to allow web pages to adapt to different screen sizes and devices, making them accessible to a wider audience (cross-browser compatibility is a plus!)
  • A passion for UI, UX, and Design Systems and working with designers to create engaging and intuitive experiences across devices
  • Experience working with product managers and designers to define, break down, and collaborate on feature work
  • Proficiency in testing and debugging techniques to identify and fix issues
  • A genuine belief in constructive and respectful code reviews, retros, and collaborative problem-solving as the bedrock of a healthy team
  • Great communication skills and the ability to support technical decision making with the team
  • A track record of delivering in increments and learning as you go
