Global Head of Material Operations

We are seeking a Head of Global Material Operations who will join our leadership team and drive both the execution and strategy of the materials we provide to our customers. Materials (development and production) are a core business pillar for Formlabs. It drives significant revenue, margin, and new customer applications to continue the growth of our business. This leader will be the single head of our Global Materials Operations and is expected to integrate all aspects of this business into a common thread of priorities, investments, and capabilities.
This person will be responsible for leading our existing material production operations around the world including our fully owned/operated facilities as well as 3rd party manufacturing facilities producing products on our behalf. Currently, we have operations in the US, EMEA, and Asia and are expanding quickly.
In addition to managing our existing production facilities, we are looking for someone who can expand our material manufacturing capabilities by identifying opportunities, building a business case for expansion, and driving the development of these new capabilities. These new capabilities should include further vertical integration as well as new manufacturing processes to develop more competitive materials for our customers. New factories, M&A activity, and new production methods should be evaluated and built into a multi-year strategy.
The Job:
- Run all current material production operations
- Drive optimization in MVA, sourcing, and supply chain
- Expand in-house capabilities
- Expand global footprint
- Build new capabilities to support a roadmap of market-leading capabilities.
- Collaborate closely with the Materials R&D team to support the production of new materials
You:
- Possess deep material manufacturing knowledge
- Have a background in chemistry
- Have experience driving operational excellence in a manufacturing environment, showing clear examples of driving cost down and quality up
- Have run a global, multi-site manufacturing network
- Can build strong vendor relationships and negotiate contract terms
- Have developed new manufacturing methods/procedures
- Have developed and executed a multi-year strategy to evolve material or manufacturing capabilities
Bonus Points:
- If your material manufacturing experience is with powders and/or resin polymers
- If you possess familiarity with the 3D printing market
