SumUp’s growing Localization team is looking for a Localization Manager. As part of the European Tribe, you'll play a key role in shaping the global voice of SumUp and will be reporting directly to the Senior Localization Manager. You’ll help us ensure that our content is not only localized into all 36 languages of SumUp’s current markets, but also consistently implemented and updated across all of our merchant communication.

This role sits within SumUp’s Marketing Team, a cross-functional group working in the fields of Localization, Content, SEO, Acquisition, Brand, CRM, PR and Social Media. Together, we devise innovative strategies to ship and market SumUp’s products, grow the brand, attract new customers and keep existing merchants excited about our products. Our Berlin-based team consists of 40+ people from 15 different countries.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams (e.g., Product, Marketing, CRM, UX Design, etc.) and localization vendors. You will guide the teams on localizability and localization best practices, help the localization team to reach our OKR (quality, throughput, etc.), and proactively create and optimize localization operations.

If you’re excited about empowering small business owners around the world, we’d love to hear from you!

What you’ll do

  • Manage translation requests for Marketing, Product, Operations, Retail and Legal by using our translation management system supported by Smartling.
  • Build, align and streamline processes as well as drive the optimisation of workflows by facilitating agile project management approaches. Prioritize requests, build translation roadmaps and track execution.
  • Drive projects in cross-functional teams, work closely with product, marketing, legal, support, content and SEO managers.
  • Create and optimize documentation to reduce knowledge dependencies between teams. Educate and consult teams within the business on localization processes.
  • Plan and monitor deadlines to ensure the timely and qualitative delivery of content assets.
  • Perform quality assurance measures to assure high-quality deliverables.
  • Support recruiting and onboarding freelance and in-house linguists.
  • Provide support to the growing pool of freelance translators and proofreaders, and evaluate their linguistic performance.
  • Implement and update all content across channels.

You’ll be great for this role if

  • You have at least 2-4 years of experience in an in-house localization team and bring knowledge of the localization industry standard.
  • You have a record of managing localization projects including various types of content assets.
  • You’ve previously worked with translation management systems and CAT tools; experience in working with Smartling is a plus.
  • You have experience working with product teams and within the product lifecycle.
  • You thrive in a fast-paced environment when dealing with many stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
  • You’re a problem-solver, work independently by taking the lead on new initiatives.
  • You pay great attention to details, have a strong linguistic and cultural sensibility, as well as an eye for language specifications.
  • You’re very structured, able to multitask and coordinate several projects at the same time, and you know how to prioritize your daily responsibilities in an agile environment.
  • You’re fluent in English, both spoken and written – knowledge of additional European languages is a plus.
  • Previous experience in using project management tools such as Jira, Confluence, GitHub, Notion, Figma.

Why you should join SumUp

  • We’re a truly global team of 3000+ people from 60+ countries, spread across 3 continents.
  • We get together regularly for breakfasts, team events, office parties and sports.
  • You’ll receive an annual budget for attending conferences and external training.
  • We offer a corporate pension scheme, 28 days’ paid leave, subsidized Urban Sports Club membership and other great benefits.
  • We offer visa and relocation support for you, your family and even your pets.
  • You’ll be based in the heart of Berlin, one of Europe’s leading tech hubs and most vibrant cities.
