GLOBAL SUPPLY MANAGER (STARLINK)

SpaceX is on a fast track to become the market leader in various product categories like US based human spaceflight, rapid vehicle reusability, global internet services through the Starlink constellation and other exciting projects. The SpaceX Supply Chain Department is a critical player in our operations. To capitalize on SpaceX’s technological and market changing successes, our team will be part of managing an agile yet robust supply chain that will enable a competitive advantage for the company. The functions within the department include procurement, planning and fulfillment, supplier development and quality, logistics and inventory. SpaceX Supply Chain will play a key role in enabling SpaceX to meet these ambitious growth targets and greatly contribute in making us a multi-planetary species.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead Opex team to drive continual excellence, automation, and cost reduction across spare parts, consumables, machined parts, and chemicals for the Starlink program
  • Provide weekly team status reporting and management escalation as required
  • Train and mentor, ensuring improvement of the Opex team
  • Create and own overall budgets for Opex, while owning projects and timelines across various categories for Starlink
  • Understand and utilize negotiations to balance and maximize cost savings, value, and timeline priorities to deliver for SpaceX while minimizing risk across the Opex team
  • Develop and manage supply base (domestic and international) to support on consumables, industrial supplies, chemicals, and machined parts for use in manufacturing
  • Work directly with key stakeholders to oversee optimization and automation of the procurement of more than 10,000 unique parts for factory machinery and equipment, as well as chemicals for semiconductor packaging and printed circuit board manufacturing
  • Understand technical aspects of production across Starlink, including silicon packaging, printed circuit boards, and machined parts
  • Provide procurement support for the maintenance of facilities to include the sourcing, negotiation, and purchase of a wide range of services, consumables, capital equipment, chemicals, and parts
  • Present value propositions to executives, including those related to contract award, cost reviews, cost reduction strategies and critical supply issues, negotiate contracts to ensure continuity of supply and protect SpaceX interests
  • Work with supply chain engineers to develop requirements for both NPI and production phases
  • Provide procurement support for the expansion and operations for the Starlink Growth and Sales team, including sourcing, negotiation, and purchase of services, software, and equipment as needed
  • Provide procurement support for the design, building, and maintenance of automation infrastructure, services, and contract labor, as well as IT infrastructure and software, including sourcing, negotiation, and purchase of services, capital equipment, and parts

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of experience working in one or more of the following; or 9+ years of experience working in one or more of the following:
    • Engineering
    • Purchasing
    • Contract negotiation
    • Material or production planning
    • Operations or supply chain management
    • Material cost control
    • Master production scheduling
    • Technical procurement or planning experience with raw material commodities

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 6+ years of procurement experience in indirect commodity sourcing
  • Experience leading teams and mentoring
  • Experience leading in new product introduction (NPI) and mass production (MP) phases
  • Experience in high volume production of cutting edge technologies and ability to learn new categories rapidly
  • Experience reading technical drawings, data sheets, fabrication drawing, BOMs and all related files
  • Ability to drive and own piece price and tooling negotiation process to ensure that SpaceX’s commodity pricing meet Best-In-Class expectations, while meeting Best-In-Class quality, in addition to driving continual cost reduction and avoidance initiatives through ad-hoc price negotiations
  • Proven track record of taking ownership, successfully negotiating preferred pricing and driving results
  • Proven track record of rapid learning and ability to prioritize to align with stakeholder and company goals
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated and able to respond rapidly to a fast-moving and ever-changing environment
  • Experience driving process improvements in fast changing environments
  • Exceptional analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills
  • Effective written, verbal and presentation communication skills
  • Conducts all activities with the highest level of integrity

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to travel and communicate outside of work hours: Up to 50% travel in work week, including international travel
  • Willingness to work long hours and weekend as needed to meet critical deadlines
