In the words of the team, you should leave your current role for this one because….

"Growth Analytics is at the heart of all the decision making and performance measuring of the Growth mission: to find, win and keep valuable customers. We convert data into many forms of insight to drive this mission"

Where you’ll work:

At OVO, we understand that a one size fits all approach doesn’t work for everyone. That’s why we created the OVO Way of Flexibility.

All our roles are hub based (Bristol, Glasgow or London), providing a dedicated space for collaboration, connection and teamwork. You’ll also have the flexibility to work from home.

Everyone belongs at OVO

At OVO, we are on a mission to solve one of humanity's biggest challenges, the climate crisis. And we know it takes all of us to change the world. That's why we need diverse people from all abilities, gender identities, ethnicities, ages, sexual orientations, life experiences and backgrounds to join us.

Teamworking for the planet

Everything we do here spins around Plan Zero. So, naturally, the team you’ll be joining plays a gigantic role in making that happen. Here’s how:

The Growth Analytics team focus is very much that of 'applied analytics' - developing, running and maintaining analytical assets which support the commercial objectives of the wider OVO Growth team.  The Growth team itself is concerned with finding, winning and keeping valuable customers across the range of OVO propositions: Energy, Home Services, Smart Metering and Zero Carbon Living.

The team is essential to driving better decisions across these activities, and quantifying the impacts of these decisions via comprehensive Performance Analytics.  With our focus on applied analytics, we are not part of centralised data science and data engineering teams - however we do engage with such colleagues to build and run crucial analytics assets which drive Growth. We're therefore looking for someone with an understanding of the skills and processes across the analytics spectrum, including data asset design, process engineering, visualisation and insight.  We tend not to be the team which builds machine learning models, but we do deploy these as part of a prescriptive analytics approach.

This role in a nutshell:

Reporting to the Senior Growth Analytics Manager, you'll be working alongside team colleagues and a wider cross functional network to drive our applied analytics for Growth outcomes.

Your key outcomes will be:

  • Co-ordinating colleagues and self-managing to deliver a time-sensitive programme (daily, weekly or monthly depending on the subject matter) of Commercial trading and Forecasting reports and analytics assets, using the developed technical solutions
  • Engage with commercial team members, IT experts and Dev Ops specialists to lead the design and delivery of technical solutions for Growth Analytics
  • Be a principle in requirements gathering, technical design, coding, transformation, testing, implementation and operational support for all steps of the data and analytics solutions development process
  • Leading projects via Agile methodologies to deliver the technical solutions described above
  • Act as a troubleshooter to address and resolve day-to-day technical, planning and delivery issues in the execution of our team's production schedule and development roadmap
  • Adopting a culture of continuous improvement to improve the quality, efficiency and automation of our SLA-driven production analytics portfolio
  • Acting as a key subject matter expert for data and analytics, partnering with other teams specialising in Comms Automation, Data Strategy,  Digital and Data Science to ensure the provision of the relevant upstream best data and technological assets
  • Identifying risks and weaknesses in our internal team and wider ecosystem and recommending and delivering actions to remove these
  • Owning the specification, project planning, resource management and ultimate delivery of a range of analytical solutions to support and drive commercial decisioning making
  • Acting as an ambassador for the Growth Analytics team across the business to ensure maximum contribution to Commercial objectives to our analytics portfolio
  • Using data exploration and programming technologies such as BigQuery SQL, with some legacy use of Oracle ADW and Alteryx to develop reporting and analytics technical solutions
  • Enabling these reports and analytics to evaluate and drive Marketing and Sales performance in Ovo's Energy, Zero Carbon Living, Home Services and Smart metering businesses
  • Using visualisation tools within Google Suite, Data Studio and Tableau to enable publication of reporting and analytical output in an interactive, user-friendly manner
  • Demonstrating features in these technologies to productionise and automate their delivery
  • Maintaining and improving the reporting and analytics technical suite according to  changing business needs and technology

Systems:

  • You will have experience in data analysis and programming, ideally with coding knowledge of industry standard technologies such as SQL / BigQuery.
  • Experience of any associated technologies such as Alteryx, ADW, Python and R, would be advantageous, although not all are needed as you can develop if you have the general aptitudes
  • Knowledge of visualisation tools such as Tableau, PowerBI or Data Studio would be advantageous

You’ll be a successful Growth Analytics Manager at OVO if you…

  • Demonstrate validated experience in a data and analytics environment, ideally within industry sectors with large customer databases
  • Are numerate and have significant technical expertise from either education or prior employment
  • Have well-developed stakeholder management and influencing skills
  • Have a strong planning and organisational capability, ideally with understanding or experience in project and BAU delivery methodologies such as Agile, Kanban etc.
  • Are able to translate commercial and technical subject matter expertise into enduring and profitable business solutions
  • Relish the opportunity to combine the above listed skills to deliver 'applied analytics:' - combining knowledge of data science, data engineering (ETL), visualisation and insight to deliver assets which address commercial 'so what' questions
  • Are at home in a team which combines planning rigour and discipline with a flexible approach to solving business problems as they arise
  • Are a motivated self-starter, with a creative approach to problem solving and analytical solutions development
