Our Opportunity:

Chewy is seeking a Hardware Engineer II for its Fulfillment Center Design Team. In this role you will be a key member of the engineering team that researches and designs new fulfillment infrastructure, processes, and technology to support the growth of Chewy’s fulfillment operations.

What You’ll Do:

  • Develop detailed engineering designs for new FCs and FC retrofits and develop spreadsheet models to analyze inbound/outbound/inventory capacities, material flow, mechanical throughput, storage slotting, labor requirements, and costing estimates.
    • Analyze business opportunities to generate design concepts and layouts for core fulfillment operations and new business vertical expansions (cold chain and pharmaceuticals).
    • Lead and coordinate design execution efforts between internal teams and outside vendors including equipment specifications, material flow, process designs, and site layouts.
    • Prepare RFPs (Request for Proposal), lead reviews, and compare/tabulate bids to make vendor recommendations based on technical qualifications.
    • Partner with external vendors to scope, design, and validate new fulfillment processes and technology such as, GTP picking automation, robotic work cells, multiple conveyance types, high speed sortation, etc.
    • Create and present upon technical documents that outline design project scopes, requirements, funding, and engineering recommendations.

What You’ll Need:

  • Bachelor's Degree (Engineering or related field) or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience managing fulfillment, distribution, or manufacturing design engineering teams.
  • Experience using computer-aided design software.
  • Experience developing and maintaining advanced spreadsheet models.
  • Experience working with automated material handling and equipment system integrators.
  • Experience developing data queries.
  • Ability to simultaneously support multiple high priority projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with cross functional stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel as needed.

Bonus (if applicable):

  • Master's Degree (Engineering or related field).
  • Experience designing automated ecommerce fulfillment infrastructure, processes, and technology.
  • Experience analyzing and summarizing large data sets.
  • Excellent organization, communication, and writing skills.
