Job Overview:

We are looking for a Senior Engineering Technician to become a part of the Boston based Toast Hardware and Mechanical Engineering team. The successful applicant will play a key role in reviewing designs and testing engineering projects. This will include Point of Sale (POS) systems such as Terminals, Guest-Facing Displays (GFD), Kitchen Display Systems (KDS), Printers, and Accessories. They will also test payment devices. These devices feature various designs, including countertop and handheld models, designed to enhance the efficiency and fluidity of customers' daily operations. This position demands meticulous attention to detail and the capability to collaborate successfully with the engineering team to ensure projects are completed on schedule.

About this roll* (Responsibilities)

  • Work cross-functionally with engineers and product managers to assist in testing (such as per Design validation plans and Reliability test) and data compilation.
  • Process shipments and managements of hardware to and from various employees across Toast.
  • Work with Test recruitment and Design Validation fixture / Machine. For example, experience with 3D printers to get design prototypes and other fixtures made.  And, experience to utilize all machines and equipment such as Instron Machine and Microvu ( or other measurement equipments )  to measure and validate a critical design & quality.
  • Organize and document tests to get concise information in a repeatable format.
  • Create documents for standard operating procedures.
  • Work with a variety of machinery and test & measurement equipment covering compression/tension, heat/humidity, electronic microscopes, ect. And maintain reliability and availability of all hardware
  • Maintain, troubleshoot and repair equipment that includes POS and Payment Devices Toast has been shipping to Customers, as part of the Design Validation process.
  • Diagnosis and repair Mechanical Engineering failure or issues under Mechanical Engineers’ guidance.
  • Other tasks as assigned

Do you have the right ingredients*? (Requirements)

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in a Tech related Major. Or 8+ years of equivalent experience in a HW, Mechanical Lab or Datacenter environment (working with computers, terminals, and other tech ).
  • Ability to coordinate multiple job effectives, and to handle detailed and broad range projects
  • Ability to meet deadlines and be detail oriented
  • Attention to detail especially with documentation and testing.
  • Great communication skills to work with Toasters with different levels of tech understanding.
  • Familiarity with Google doc and MS office, especially with SharePoint folder / Online document.
  • Ability to self-manage and prioritize tasks (  to perform well at work without requiring constant manager supervision ).
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment.
  • Open for Trips internationally and domestically ( up to 2 weeks per each trip).

Do you have the right ingredients*? (Good to Have )

  • Critical thinking skills and curiosity, especially for POS product design validation and Root cause analysis working co-operatively with Mechanical Engineering team(s).
  • Proficient understanding of POS and Payment Devices equipped at Restaurants.

The starting pay rate for this role is below. Please note, there is not a range for this role, the number listed below is the rate.Pay Rate$27—$44 USD
