About the role

We are looking for a Head of Chinese Category to join our UKI Commercial team. Reporting to the Regional Director for South England & Wales, this is an exciting opportunity to drive the growth of Chinese restaurants across UKI.

You will manage a team of Commercial Account Managers and Business Development Managers who manage and sign the highest performing Chinese restaurants around the UK and Ireland. The role will be commercially focused and require cross-functional collaboration with different teams across the Deliveroo business (e.g. Regional Managers, Sales, Finance and Marketing) to ensure the Chinese Category is performing to its best.

What you'll be doing

  • Category Leadership: be the owner of the Chinese Category within the business. Working not just with your direct team, but with regional commercial teams across UK & Ireland, technology, marketing and partnerships to maximise and grow the Category
  • Line management: managing a direct team of Chinese sales and commercial account managers based mainly in London, but also in our key strategic regional locations
  • Commercial Acumen: lead your commercial team to negotiate effectively with restaurants to achieve the best outcomes for Deliveroo and grow the partners business
  • Role Model: A leader within the team, you will be responsible for driving up sales and commercial performance across the Category including role modelling best-in-class behaviours, managing commercial managers supporting them to hit team targets and grow their portfolios
  • Complex programmes: as a senior leader, you’ll lead the delivery and performance of large commercial programmes by working across regional, commercial and project teams based in and out of Head Office
  • Tasting: Sample food from a variety of high quality establishments and attend restaurant and food meet ups.  Enjoy the restaurant scene and have a passion for all the different aspects of Chinese cuisine

Requirements

  • Fluent Mandarin speaker. This is a real must as most of our Chinese partners prefer to communicate in Mandarin
  • Proven sales and commercial experience in a similar market and industry
  • Experienced team leader, managing a direct team of commercial managers and ensuring that they hit targets by supporting their clients' performance
  • Capable of managing cross functional initiatives to improve ways of working and commercial outcomes
  • Strong negotiator, able to structure win-win deals for restaurants and for Deliveroo
  • Commercially knowledgeable who understands the economics of food delivery - for restaurants and Deliveroo
  • Be able to demonstrate product and industry knowledge to clients
  • Effective relationship-building and communication skills whether face to face, through phone, WeChat or email
